IMF reaches agreement with Argentina that could unlock $900 million

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Argentina reached an agreement on Tuesday (the 27th) that could potentially lead to the allocation of about $900 million to the country. However, the actual transfer of funds depends on the approval of the organization's Executive Board.

This amount is part of a larger $20 billion agreement concluded between Argentina and the IMF in 2025. The release of these $900 million is linked to the third review of the program, within which the fund checks compliance with the goals set by the country.

According to IMF estimates, Argentina's economy has shown progress since the last analysis. The institution noted a steady slowdown in inflation and an increase in international reserves, which exceeded the forecasts set in the program.

These funds practically contribute to strengthening Argentina's international reserves. This reserve of dollars is critically important for covering the country's external obligations and provides Javier Milei's government with an additional opportunity to ease restrictions on the use of US currency.
