The LGBTQIA+ festival Love Noronha began on Wednesday, the 28th, and will run until November 2nd, taking place in Fernando de Noronha. The event's schedule includes festivities, musical performances, gastronomic options, and sustainability-focused activities.
Maria do Céu, the festival's originator, highlighted the progress observed in the island's acceptance and emphasized the relevance of both tourism and diversity. She stated that Noronha serves as a model for welcoming LGBTQIA+ tourism, mentioning that since its first edition in 2012, the event has promoted professional training in the sector without recording cases of homophobia or complaints.
The cultural producer attributes this positive reception from the LGBTQIA+ community to the awareness efforts developed with local residents. According to her, this is a result of collaboration between island inhabitants, entrepreneurs, and the state government, which supports various actions, including professional training and the event's banner. Maria do Céu affirmed that Fernando de Noronha is the location that best welcomes LGBTQIA+ tourism in Brazil.
Furthermore, she commented that Fernando de Noronha receives LGBTQIA+ visitors throughout the year and hosts same-sex marriages, expressing satisfaction at being part of this construction and wishing for this example to be replicated throughout the national and global territory.
