The fullness of the stands at Newlands underscored the stadium's status as South Africa's premier test cricket gem

Under the Cape Town sun, against the backdrop of Table Mountain, the Newlands stadium, filled with fans in green and gold, demonstrated its significance. On Tuesday, over 11,000 spectators passed through the turnstiles, making this day more than just a game of cricket on one of the world's most beautiful grounds.

The mother city prepared for a major match where history, pride, and the pinnacle of test cricket were at stake. After modest attendance at the Kingsmead and St George's Park stadiums in the first two matches, Newlands showed the world that South Africans genuinely value the pure form of the game.

Prominent figures from Cape Town cricket were present at the event—both on the field, in the stands, and at the microphone. Former Proteas captain Graeme Smith participated in commentary, while local hero Paul 'Goggie' Adams enjoyed the day in the hospitality areas.

However, it was the fans who were the main attraction on Tuesday. Spectators arrived in traditional club white attire, and many were also dressed in the popular green jersey of the Bafana Bafana national team for the World Cup. It was these fans who began singing when Proteas captain Temba Bavuma walked out to bat, with songs like 'Temba Bavuma, he is from Lange, he came to score runs, score, score, and he plays for Proteas' echoing around the famous stadium.

Newlands underwent changes ahead of next year's World Cup. The traditional stands with boerie rolls, which had supported generations of cricket lovers, were replaced by high-class cafes, restaurants, and bars, giving the stadium a more cosmopolitan look.

Since the match took place on Tuesday, representatives of the modern business world also attended. Laptops were open, meetings were taking place on Teams and Zoom, and Cape Town digital nomads tried to balance work deadlines with the drama unfolding on the field. Every wicket or out threatened to disrupt the meeting, causing an explosion of cheers, after which fans hastily returned to their screens or left them entirely to return to their seats.

The morning passed in a joyful atmosphere thanks to a session filled with runs, dominated by Proteas openers Marcus Ackermann and Aiden Markram. However, Australia does not hold the top spot in the rankings for nothing, and they never give up without a fight.

The visiting teams responded strongly in the afternoon, starting with off-spinner Nathan Lyon, followed by Mitchell Starc delivering a series of laser yorkers that bypassed the lower order of Proteas. Despite 329 runs being scored and 10 wickets lost on this exciting day, providing fans with full value for their money in this economically struggling South Africa, the event was something more than just a game on the field.

It served as a reminder that test cricket, in all its glory at Newlands, remains the undisputed premier gem of South African cricket grounds.

West Indies Coach Darren Sammy Sparks Controversy in India After Posting That No Score Is Safe

The head coach of the West Indies cricket team, Darren Sammy, published a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday that caused widespread resonance among Indian fans. Sammy wrote: 'Wow... no score is safe. I know this feeling.' Following this phrase, which was succeeded by two English letters, the post became the subject of significant buzz and viral spread.

The situation relates to the results of two matches held on the same day, Thursday (October 22). In one of them, the Sri Lankan team set a historic record by achieving a massive target of 430 runs against England in an ODI match in Rawalpindi, with only one ball remaining at the end of the game.

In another match, in Christchurch, the New Zealand team (Black Caps) scored 225 runs in a T20, but India managed to win, securing those points with a 4-wicket advantage with 2 balls remaining. It was after these games that Sammy posted his message.

Sammy's post, who twice won the T20 World Cup, garnered millions of views in a matter of hours. Cricket critics noted that Sammy expressed a valid thought that even large scores do not guarantee safety in modern times.

However, the final words added by Sammy at the end of the post were interpreted by Indian fans as an insult, leading to a wave of memes under the post. Many users jokingly suggested that Sammy had learned Hindi during his tour in India.

It is worth noting that in the T20 in Christchurch, the New Zealand team initially scored 225 runs, which the Indian team overcame by a margin of 4 wickets with 2 balls left. In the series match continuing in Rawalpindi, England scored 429/4 thanks to a brilliant century by Harry Brook. In response, Sri Lanka managed to achieve a triumph in a tense battle, winning by 2 wickets with 1 ball remaining. In this contest, Pathan Ratnake scored 130 runs, while Dasun Shanaka and Avishka Fernando scored 97 runs each.

Despite being fully fit, Jasprit Bumrah will not be selected for the ODI tour against New Zealand by the coaching staff

The main fast bowler of the Indian team, Jasprit Bumrah, will not be able to participate in the five-match ODI series with the Indian squad during the visit to New Zealand. The reason for his exclusion is not an injury, but a special strategy developed by the team management.

According to reports, Bumrah is completely healthy, but the team management aims to prepare him in optimal condition for the upcoming Test series. According to The Times of India, the management prefers that Bumrah focus on preparing for cricket in the 'red ball' format (Test format) instead of participating in the ODI series. Currently, Bumrah has started preparations for the Test matches in Ahmedabad.

It is planned that he will arrive at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) by the end of this month and then travel to New Zealand. There is also a possibility of including Bumrah in the third match of the India A series, which starts on November 6, to increase his workload. This will allow him to get sufficient rest before the first Test, which starts on November 19 in Wellington.

One source reported that due to the length of the tour, prioritizing Bumrah's workload is crucial. He is the leader of the Indian batting lineup, and the team wants to ensure his full readiness for the Test series. It should be noted that last year, Bumrah last participated in a multi-day match against South Africa at home.

Earlier this year, Bumrah missed two Test matches against Sri Lanka due to a knee injury. Now, the team management wishes to keep him available for future Test matches. Many discussions have taken place among key figures associated with the team regarding this matter.

This strategy is not limited only to the visit to New Zealand; the upcoming five-Test series against Australia next year (Border-Gavaskar Trophy) is also being considered. The team is focusing on the World Test Championship (WTC), so the tactic of preserving Bumrah for more significant Test matches may be adopted instead of fielding him in less prioritized bilateral series.

The squads for the Indian ODI and Test teams are expected to be announced in the coming days. Selectors await updated information on the health and availability of players such as Harshit Rana, Prasidh Krishna, and Rishabh Pant, after which the squad picture may become clearer.

Taste Of Cape Town Festival to Bring Together Restaurants La Colombe, FYN, and Vuur at Green Point Cricket Club Stadium

Cape Town has 40 days left to solidify its status. On November 28 and 29, 2026, the Taste of Cape Town festival will gather twelve of the city's most renowned restaurants in one venue—the Green Point Cricket Club stadium. All visitors will dine using unified menus and prices.

The initial idea behind the festival was to best celebrate Cape Town's restaurants by bringing the entire city together around them. Over one weekend, twelve cuisines that have helped Cape Town enter the global gastronomic map will cook side-by-side, providing a place for every guest.

Bonke Shipalana, CEO of The Allure Group, which holds the exclusive IMG license for hosting Taste in South Africa, noted: 'Cape Town doesn't attract you with its menu. It attracts you with a table.' He added that a memorable summer event in Cape Town is not the one with the most dishes, but the one where everyone gathers. For two days, La Colombe, FYN, and Vuur will cook in one location, and a ticket costing 450 rand will grant access to all these tables.

Confirmed chefs include James Haga from La Colombe, Amori Burger from Upper Union, Wusi Ndlovu from EDGE Africa, Shaun Scorbey from Vuur, and Bertus Basson from Basson & Co. They are joined by FYN founder Peter Templehoff and culinary director Ashley Moss.

For the City of Cape Town, a partner in the festival, this weekend means more than just food. J P Smith, a member of the City of Cape Town's Majoritarian Committee on Safety and Security, stated: 'Cape Town's cuisine and wine are part of our identity, and they attract people to our city from all corners of the world. Taste of Cape Town showcases our restaurants, our producers, and young talents to thousands of guests in one weekend.'

In addition to culinary delights, the festival is designed to satisfy all the senses. Guests can enjoy live culinary demonstrations, a music stage, as well as wines from Kleine Zalze, Cavalli, Waterford, Steenberg Vineyards, and Boekenhoutskloof, supported by Graham Beck as the Cap Classique partner.

Tickets start from 450 rand for the Taste Entry Pass, which grants full access to all restaurants, demonstrations, and tastings. The Taste Premium option costs 595 rand and includes a voucher for a signature dish. Taste Lux will cost 895 rand and provides a welcome drink and a voucher for an exclusive dish. The Taste Lux Friends package allows bringing four people for 3222 rand, saving 358 rand. Daily capacity is limited to 4000 guests.
