Morocco repatriates 327 unaccompanied minors after crisis in Ceuta

Between August 2 and the current date, Morocco has repatriated 327 unaccompanied Moroccan minors from Ceuta. This occurred after tens of thousands of migrants entered this Spanish city in July, according to a source close to the process.

The source, whose information was published by the Spanish news agency EFE, specified that these repatriations were carried out taking into account the best interests of the children and the necessity of their staying with their parents. The online publication Médias24 reported that returns are happening daily through the land border between Fnideq (Castilchos) and Ceuta, and this process continues at a 'constant pace.'

During his last speech on October 9, on the occasion of the opening of Parliament, King Mohammed VI noted the progress in migration cooperation between Morocco and Spain, but he also stated that the current model is 'outdated.'

Furthermore, the monarch criticized the 'legal and judicial' obstacles that hinder the repatriation of unaccompanied Moroccan minors and announced that the country will present a new strategy for migration cooperation.

The King emphasized that 'this cooperation today faces major problems related to certain outdated legal provisions and judicial decisions far removed from reality, which unfortunately impede the repatriation of minors and asylum seekers, thereby fueling the ambitions of criminal networks.'

In the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, located in North Africa, more than 70,000 people illegally entered on July 30 and 31.
