Microsoft offers voluntary exit to about 60 thousand employees in India and three other countries

Microsoft has announced the launch of a voluntary separation program for eligible employees in India, the USA, the UK, and Canada. According to the tech giant's blog post, the program provides financial support and career planning resources for those who decide to leave the company.

Currently, Microsoft employs about 23,000 people in India, but there is no clear information yet on how many of them will be able to utilize this program. Globally, approximately 60,000 employees are eligible for the program.

It is reported that eligible employees in India must make a decision regarding the voluntary exit offer by December 1st. The package terms are reportedly similar to standard termination conditions and include one month's base salary for each full year of service, as well as health insurance and outplacement services.

Voluntary Separation Program

Emily Coleman, Vice President and Chief People Officer at Microsoft, stated in her blog that the Voluntary Exit Offer (VEO) will be available to employees at level 70 and below in participating teams across all four countries. This initiative is temporary and aims to provide greater flexibility to those exploring opportunities outside the company.

In her post, she clarified that this offer applies to eligible employees in teams participating in Canada, India, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Meanwhile, a Microsoft representative stated that the company continues to invest in India's talent and technology ecosystem, supporting the country's ambitions in artificial intelligence by allocating $20.5 billion for cloud and AI infrastructure, training, and operations between 2025 and 2029.

The Microsoft representative also noted that the company is on track to meet its commitment to equipping 20 million people in India with AI skills by 2030. Coleman emphasized that the program will provide employees with supported transition opportunities while allowing participating organizations to adapt their workforce to changing needs.

The company explained that the implementation of the program will not be uniform across all divisions; participation will depend on individual business priorities, client commitments, and workforce needs. The blog indicated that eligible employees will receive emails with detailed descriptions of their voluntary exit offer terms.

Coleman added that Microsoft will continue to assist employees in developing new skills and exploring internal career opportunities where appropriate. She stressed that the approach is not universal for every team or every employee, and the company seeks to balance evolving business requirements with opportunities for employee growth and contribution.
