Despite Pakistan being an Islamic country, a recent event has sparked new public controversy. At the finale of the 'Laam Fashion Week' in Lahore, Islamic doctrine was publicly ridiculed.
During the fashion show, Pakistani models and actresses walked to the tune of an Islamic 'naat'—a poem praising the Prophet Muhammad—which caused strong indignation among the public.
This incident is viewed as an insult to religious feelings and Islamic beliefs. Actress Misha Khan expressed extreme dissatisfaction with the way the naats were performed in an Islamic style, calling it an anti-Islamic act.
Misha Khan shared a video on her Instagram account where she condemns the participants of the fashion show for mocking Islam. She stated that she deeply regrets and is saddened by the use of the naat, which is a work of art titled 'Ye Sab Tumhara Karam Hai Aka', at the finale of 'Laam Fashion Week.'
Previously, this piece was recited by Abida Parveen Sahiba at the Coke Studio show, but now it was used to conclude the fashion show. Misha Khan addressed the participants, asking if they understood the situation, and noted that Iffat Umar (a Pakistani actress) danced to the naat. While acknowledging her belonging to the entertainment industry, she added that perhaps she herself is more at fault than they are, but emphasized that everyone must answer for themselves before their grave.
She is strongly against the use of Islamic works at secular events. Furthermore, Misha Khan protested the practice of models holding runway shows in Pakistani mosques, where Quranic verses are often displayed. She questioned people's common sense, asserting that they cannot misuse religion.
The actress concluded that although they work in business, it is their choice, and no one should mock Islam. The Pakistani public supported Misha Khan, with one user noting her correctness by stating that not everything is entertainment.
