The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan strongly urged residents to follow gas safety rules during the heating season and to inspect ventilation systems, chimneys, and heating equipment.
The Ministry warned that using homemade or faulty heating appliances, improperly connecting chimneys, and installing gas equipment by unqualified specialists can trigger carbon monoxide poisoning and other incidents.
The particular danger of carbon monoxide lies in its colorless and odorless nature, which makes timely detection difficult.
As recommendations, the ministry advises using only heating appliances that meet safety requirements, as well as ensuring the installation and inspection of gas equipment by qualified experts. Chimneys and ducts must be regularly inspected for blockages and soot accumulation.
Residents were also advised to ensure the proper functioning of ventilation systems, keep air ducts unobstructed, and never use gas stoves to heat rooms. Gas equipment should be used strictly for its intended purpose and in accordance with established safety rules.
In case of appliance malfunction or suspected gas leaks, residents should take necessary precautions and contact the relevant emergency services.
The first signs of carbon monoxide poisoning include headache, dizziness, nausea, and weakness. People experiencing such symptoms should immediately move to fresh air, help others leave the dangerous area, and seek urgent medical assistance.
The Ministry of Energy emphasized that timely inspection of equipment and adherence to operating rules contribute to reducing the probability of accidents during the heating season.
