The volume of trade between the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Uzbekistan for the period from January to July 2026 exceeded 11 billion US dollars.
According to the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), Uzbekistan accounted for 66% of the total trade volume of the bloc with CIS countries that are not members of the EAEU. Bakytzhan Sagintayev, Chairman of the EEC Board, noted that Uzbekistan is the main trading partner of the bloc among CIS countries that are not EAEU members.
According to Sagintayev, bilateral trade turnover reached 17.4 billion dollars in 2025, which is 1.8 times higher than the level in 2020.
At the initiative of Uzbekistan, an international agreement on the exchange of customs information is being prepared. This document is intended to simplify customs procedures, increase the transparency of trade flows, and facilitate the activities of foreign trade participants.
The parties are also working to eliminate barriers to mutual trade by implementing a joint action plan to compare their technical regulation systems. Bringing mandatory requirements into compliance should facilitate easier entry of goods into the markets of the EAEU and Uzbekistan while reducing business costs. Furthermore, the parties are developing initiatives in industrial and agro-industrial cooperation.
Another promising area is the digital transformation of the economy, which was one of Kazakhstan's key priorities during its chairmanship in the EAEU bodies in 2026.
Sagintayev emphasized: 'We see good opportunities to expand dialogue on electronic data exchange, digitalization of cargo transportation, integration of digital services, and the development of e-commerce.'
The EEC and the government of Uzbekistan are completing the implementation of the joint action plan for the period 2024–2026 this year. A new plan covering the period up to 2030 is currently being developed.
These issues were discussed during meetings between Sagintayev and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Tashkent on October 22. Uzbekistan received observer status at the EAEU in 2020. Cooperation between the EEC and the government of Uzbekistan is based on a 2021 memorandum, under which a joint working group operates to implement coordinated action plans.
