India to play in UAE for Women's T20 World Cup despite Pakistan's hospitality

Despite Pakistan's desire to host all matches of the 2027 Women's T20 World Cup on its territory, there is a possibility that the Indian team's games will take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has not yet made a final decision on a neutral venue for India's matches.

According to ICC information, the tournament involving 12 teams is scheduled from September 7 to October 1, 2028, with Pakistan serving as the main host. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) insists on holding most matches, including the playoffs, in Pakistan, with the exception of games against India.

Under an agreement between India and Pakistan, when one country hosts an ICC or Asian tournament, the other team plays its matches at a neutral venue. A similar arrangement was applied during the 2025 World Cup, when the Indian team played all its games in the UAE and won the title in Dubai, while 10 out of 15 matches were held in Pakistan.

An official from the PCB told PTI that Pakistan would like to apply the same scheme for the Women's T20 World Cup. It proposed the UAE as a practical alternative, as travel from Pakistan to Dubai is simple, which could also reduce logistical costs.

The Indian women's team is expected to reach the tournament playoffs. According to a PCB representative, if India does not reach the final, the title match could be held in Lahore, although this is currently only Pakistan's plan, not an official ICC decision.

Pakistan will receive funding from the ICC for organizing the tournament and other expenses. The PCB hopes this will help promote women's cricket in the country. Meanwhile, the Men's T20 World Cup 2028 will take place from October 12 to November 12 in Australia and New Zealand.
