The concert of singer Diljit Dosanjh, scheduled for October 30th, will proceed according to the original schedule. The Delhi Police reviewed their previous decision and granted permission after a meeting with the organizer 'BookMyShow Live'.
On Friday evening, the singer published a video in which he indirectly mocked the excitement surrounding the permit for the upcoming performance. Diljit addressed his fans in his usual humorous style, stating: 'I said there were reels, tweets, and debates in your newsrooms. Now we will see each other on the 30th in Delhi. First, learn the news; you are spreading raw smoke. It is better to know the information than to spread raw smoke.'
He continued, noting that instead of discussing online debates, they would meet in person to talk about everything. He concluded his live stream by confirming the meeting with fans in the capital on October 30th, thereby ending speculation surrounding the concert.
What was the whole situation
Previously, on Thursday, the Delhi Police stated that they had refused to issue a permit for the concert at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The reasons cited for the refusal were security threats, safety concerns, and the duty to maintain law and order during the festive season.
A week before the concert, on Friday, a senior police official announced that after a meeting and review of the matter with the organizers, permission for Diljit Dosanjh's concert on October 30th had been granted. Earlier that same day, the event organizer 'BookMyShow Live' released a statement clarifying that the permit, which had been 'temporarily suspended', was now reviewed and reinstated.
'We want to clarify that reports claiming that Diljit Dosanjh's concert 'AURA India Tour', scheduled for New Delhi on October 30th, has been cancelled are false. The event permit was only temporarily suspended, not cancelled. These two points should not be confused,' the statement reads.
In addition to the crowd gathering during the holidays, another reason for the refusal was the receipt of a phishing email with a fake bomb threat by several Delhi schools on the morning of October 15th. A senior police official reported that this same email warned students not to attend Dosanjh's concert on October 30th. This fake letter also contained slogans supporting Khalistan. This email was received by six schools, including The British School, Mount Carmel, Ahalkon International School, and Ahalkon Public School.
AAP Criticized the Decision
Saurabh Bhardwaj, head of the Aam Aadmi Party, criticized the decision. He accused the government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Delhi Police of 'bias' towards 'brave Punjabis'.
Bhardwaj stated on X: 'True heroes like Diljit Dosanjh have supported the farmers' movement and stood against police violence against students. The government shows bias towards such brave Punjabis. Previously, the government also banned his film 'Sutlej', based on the atrocities of the Punjab police during the period of extremism.'
