The Paraíba government announced on Tuesday (the 23rd) the start of a sterilization campaign for 280 dogs and cats in the cities of João Pessoa and Poxsinana. This initiative is being carried out in cooperation with the Executive Secretariat for Animal Protection (Sepa) and will run from Monday (the 26th) to Friday (the 30th).
In João Pessoa, procedures will be conducted at the parking lot of the Menor Preço supermarket, located at Rua Joaquim Pires Ferreira, nº 432, in the Bairro dos Estados neighborhood. There are 110 spots available here: 80 for cats and 30 for dogs.
In Poxsinana, surgeries will take place at a mobile veterinary unit in the Events Park, on Avenida 28 de Janeiro, in the city center. This part of the campaign offers 170 spots, of which 120 are designated for felines and 50 for canines.
Sterilizations are planned to take place simultaneously in both localities. On Monday (the 26th), blood collection for hematological analysis and pre-operative examinations will begin at 8 am. At this stage, the animals do not need to fast.
The operations themselves will start on Tuesday (the 27th) at 8 am. Before the surgical intervention, the animals must observe a fast lasting between 8 and 12 hours, according to the recommendations of the responsible veterinarian.
How to Participate
To participate in this campaign, dogs and cats must be at least eight months old and not exceed six years of age. Interested owners must register in advance on the website of the secretariat responsible for this campaign. Registration will remain open until all available spots are filled.
