South Africa is preparing for a mostly clear and warm or hot Saturday, with sunny conditions expected in many parts of the country. However, residents in some areas of Limpopo and Mpumalanga should expect increased cloudiness, patches of morning fog, and the possibility of light rain or drizzle over Lowveld and the Escarpment.
The South African Weather Service forecasts an extremely high fire danger level in the Nama Khoi municipality in the Northern Cape for Saturday. Isolated precipitation or light rain is possible in the eastern parts of the Escarpment and Lowveld, especially in Mpumalanga and Limpopo.
Gauteng is expected to have clear and warm conditions, which will turn hot in the far north. Residents can expect plenty of sunshine, while the UV index is forecast to be very high, emphasizing the importance of sun protection for those spending a lot of time outdoors.
The North West will be clear and hot or very hot, and Free State will start the day clear and warm before becoming partly cloudy later. Heat is expected in western Limpopo, while weather ranging from partly cloudy to cloudy will develop in the east. Patches of morning fog and the possibility of light rain along the Escarpment and Lowveld may affect some areas.
Mpumalanga will show a similar picture: most of the province will have clear and warm weather, but it will become cloudier to the east. The possibility of light rain or drizzle persists in the Lowveld areas and along the Escarpment.
Sunday to Bring Scattered Thunderstorms
October 25 promises a higher probability of rainfall and thunderstorms in the eastern and central inland areas, while most of the western half of the country will remain dry, sunny, and increasingly hot. The weather forecast indicates a 30% chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms in some inland areas, including regions around Free State, North West, the eastern interior, and parts of KwaZulu-Natal. These rains are localized, meaning many places may remain dry despite nearby cloudiness.
KwaZulu-Natal is likely to experience cloudy weather and morning fog in the southern and far western inland areas, while other areas will be partly cloudy and warm. Isolated afternoon rains and thunderstorms are expected in the north and far west of the province, making these areas the main focus for daytime precipitation on Sunday. Some parts of the eastern interior may also feel cooler weather under increased cloud cover and rain, contrasting with the hotter weather expected in the west and north of the country.
In Gauteng, clear and warm weather will give way to partly cloudy skies, and temperatures in the northern part will be high. Although widespread rain is not expected, thunderstorm activity near the interior in some areas may cause changes in cloudiness and local conditions. Limpopo and Mpumalanga will remain warm or hot, with the hottest conditions observed in the west and north. Although the main focus of precipitation shifts towards the central and eastern interior on Sunday, localized rain remains possible in areas where sufficient cloud cover develops.
Hot Conditions Raise Fire Danger in the West
The western half of South Africa is expected to remain mostly dry throughout the weekend, with hot or very hot conditions developing in several areas on Sunday. The Northern Cape will experience clear weather over most of the province, although partly cloudy weather is expected in the southeast. Very hot conditions are forecast in some places, and fresh or strong southeasterly winds are expected along the coast.
The warning of extremely high fire danger for the Nama Khoi municipality remains a serious concern. Hot, dry, and windy conditions can promote rapid fire spread, and residents are strongly urged to exercise caution when using open flames and conducting activities that could trigger wildfires.
The Western Cape will see cloudy or partly cloudy weather along the western and southern coasts on Saturday morning, followed by generally clear weather. Temperatures will range from cool to warm, with hot weather along the west coast and over the Central Karoo. On Sunday, the province is expected to be mostly dry with sunny conditions in many places.
The Eastern Cape will also enjoy generally clear and warm weather, although patches of morning fog are possible in some areas south of the Escarpment. Coastal wind direction will change as conditions evolve throughout the day.
