Theshen Naicker's film about a wedding in Durban receives two nominations at the Sabela Award 2026

The micro-budget film by Theshen Naicker, titled 'My Cousin’s Big Fat Durban Wedding,' has received two nominations at the Simon Mabhunu Sabela KZN Film and Television Awards 2026. These nominations were awarded for Best Costume and Designer, as well as for Best Micro-Budget Film.

The film was released in theaters in December 2025. Naicker himself expressed surprise regarding the nomination in the wardrobe and costume category, considering the presence of larger films from Netflix with substantial costume budgets.

Naicker stated that thanks to his fifteen years of experience dressing brides, he independently adapted existing Eastern garments into looks combining Indo-African style. Lehengas were created for both men and women for the film, along with Indian suits for men.

Expensive brands such as Gucci and Louis Vuitton were used in Western costumes, which Naicker acquired during international trips. When developing the wardrobe, he aimed to reflect an Afrocentric aesthetic, so some outfits featured Indian pieces adorned with African jewelry.

In Naicker's opinion, the actors' clothing contributed to the film's appeal and made it 'beautiful.' He noted that working on the wardrobe without funding was a challenging task but provided an opportunity to showcase his sense of style, given that the characters in the film led a wealthy lifestyle. He emphasized that he did not compromise on the quality of the wardrobe because each character required a distinct style.

The process of creating and selecting these outfits reminded Naicker of his childhood dreams of becoming a fashion designer—a dream he abandoned after a relative told him that one could not earn money in that profession. Naicker stated that this film validates all his hard work, and the nomination itself is an honor. He is proud that his micro-budget film, which cost a few hundred thousand, achieved such success.

Following this success in the film industry, Naicker took a break from his 'Aunty Sheila' videos. He currently has a second film in development, the production of which is planned to begin next year. Furthermore, he has received offers to make a film, but he cannot disclose details yet.

Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 continues to collect box office, surpassing Toxic and becoming the biggest South Indian hit of the year

Rajinikanth has presented his fans with the biggest film of the year. His new movie 'Jailer 2' has not even been out for a week and is continuously setting records at the box office. Even at the age of 75, the Tamil superstar is demonstrating his brilliant success, which has allowed the film to earn significant revenue as of Monday.

According to Sakencilk, on Monday, 'Jailer 2' collected approximately 42.35 crore rupees in India. The film's total net revenue in India reached 242.25 crore rupees. On Monday, the film was screened in 14,976 theaters across the country, with an occupancy rate of about 48.8%, indicating high audience interest even on a weekday.

The film is most popular in the Tamil language, having currently earned 175.10 crore rupees in the Tamil version. The figures for the Tamil version are higher than those for the Telugu and Hindi versions, which is partly explained by the smaller number of screenings in other languages, but it still demonstrates impressive earnings.

Regarding global collections, the film brought in 283.75 crore rupees in India over five days, and cumulatively worldwide, it has already earned 194 crore rupees. Currently, the film's total revenue stands at 477.75 crore rupees, and the movie is proving successful outside the country.

'Jailer 2' has become the highest-grossing Tamil and South Indian film at the beginning of 2026. Before this, the record was held by the Kannada star Yash's film 'Toxic', which earned 342 crore rupees globally. Rajinikanth's film broke this record as early as Sunday. The movie is now approaching the 500 crore mark.

Previously, the most profitable film of the Tamil superstar was 'Jailer 2.0' and 'Jailer', which together generated a global business of 600–700 crore rupees. If 'Jailer 2' exceeds the 500 crore threshold, it will be another important milestone in his career, and it remains to be seen whether he will reach this goal.
