Several months ago, a serious controversy arose surrounding the title of Manoj Bajpayee's film released on Netflix. The film was working under the title 'Ghushhor Pandit,' which caused dissatisfaction among a segment of the public. Critics pointed out that the combination of the words 'Ghushhor' and 'Pandit' incorrectly depicted a certain community.
The situation escalated to the point where a criminal case (FIR) was filed against the film, and a petition was submitted to the court. Subsequently, the film's promotional materials were withdrawn.
During an interview with Zoom regarding the release of 'Gajab Rat' on Netflix, the actor shared details of this dispute. He explained that the initial working title of the film was not 'Ghushhor Pandit'; it had a different name on the set. Later, the team decided that the title 'Ghushhor Pandit' better reflected the character's image, and this is what was adopted for promotional purposes.
Manoj noted that objections came from people who had neither seen the film nor the trailer, but were dissatisfied solely with the title. He stated that they responded immediately to the remarks and made adjustments, after which the film moved into post-production. The actor also refuted the claim that the film's release date was postponed due to the title dispute, emphasizing that the release was always planned for around this period.
He added that the film was initially planned for release in the first half of the year, but streaming platforms form their schedules well in advance. Manoj stated that he would not provide any further explanations on this matter, as platforms like Netflix determine the annual schedule very early.
The film's producer, Niraj Pandey, had previously provided explanations, clarifying that it is a fictional police story, and the word 'Pandit' is simply a colloquial name for a fictional character. He insisted that the film's goal is not to comment on any caste, religion, or community.
