Cape Open Air Festival to Return to Muizenberg in December 2026 with Jeremy Loops Concert

The Cape Open Air Festival plans to return to Muizenberg Park in December 2026 to offer live music by the sea during the summer season in the city of Mother City.

This festival, spearheaded by renowned South African musician Jeremy Loops, will once again showcase local talent, coastal charm, and the unique spirit of the Western Cape. For Loops, who resides in Muizenberg, the festival has become a kind of annual homecoming—an opportunity to present his music to the community and coast that have played a significant role in his life.

Set against the backdrop of the picturesque Muizenberg Park, Cape Open Air offers a unique Cape Town experience: it is a blend of an open-air concert, a summer gathering, and a celebration of the country's outstanding musical abilities. Thanks to its proximity to the ocean, the possibility of having a picnic on the grass, and performances by South Africa's top musicians, the day is conceived as a meeting point for friends, families, and music lovers.

Jeremy Loops noted that Cape Open Air has turned into a 'little gem of the Southern Cape.' He added: 'Every year it gets a little bigger, but it retains its local spirit. There's nothing like performing at a big show in Muizenberg, right over the ocean, surrounded by friends, family, and familiar faces. This is my home turf, and honestly, one of my favorite shows of the year.'

Although the full lineup has not yet been revealed, organizers announced one particularly exciting addition to this year's program—Bongozive Mabandla. Loops and the festival team are delighted to finally welcome one of South Africa's most authentic and captivating voices to the Cape Open Air stage after many years of anticipation.

Mabandla, an award-winning singer-songwriter, has gained widespread recognition both domestically and internationally for his extraordinary vocals, deeply personal songwriting, and unique sound that seamlessly transitions between African folk, soul, and contemporary alternative music. With three South African Music Awards, Mabandla has established himself as one of the nation's most respected and compelling performers.

For Loops, this performance holds special significance. He stated: 'I have been a huge fan of Bongozive's music for many years, and we have tried to get him into Cape Open Air for as long as I can remember. He is one of those artists who has something truly special—his voice, his songwriting, the way he connects with the audience. I am genuinely thrilled that we finally managed to make this happen. I think it will be a wonderful addition to the day.'

This is just the beginning, as organizers are keeping the rest of the lineup under wraps, promising to announce many more interesting South African artists ahead of December. Cape Open Air has secured its place in Cape Town's summer calendar, offering music enthusiasts the chance to enjoy high-quality live performances in a relaxed outdoor setting that celebrates both the venue and the talent on stage.

The festival promises a day filled with music, connection, and creative energy, making the Cape Town live music scene so special, starting from early afternoon performances and concluding with Jeremy Loops as the evening headliner. Whether you come to sing along to favorite songs, discover a new South African artist, or simply soak up the atmosphere with friends and family, Cape Open Air is an invitation to slow down, enjoy the sun, and celebrate summer the Cape Town way.
