How to prevent dust accumulation in the home even after closing windows and doors: 8 simple methods

Even with regular cleaning, including dusting furniture and decorative items, many people close windows to prevent dust buildup. However, soon a layer of dust reappears on tables, televisions, cabinets, and floors. This problem is not unique and can occur even with closed windows and doors.

The causes of dust accumulation may not only be in the air coming from outside but also in items inside the house, such as clothes, shoes, and curtains. Instead of constantly dusting, it is better to focus on eliminating the sources of its entry or accumulation. Small changes in daily habits can significantly reduce the amount of dust in the home, making cleaning easier and helping the house look clean for a long time.

  1. Check gaps in windows and doors: If dust enters the house even with closed windows, you should inspect their edges and frames. Small cracks can let dust through; they must be sealed with sealant or weatherstripping.
  2. Avoid wearing shoes indoors: Shoes can bring dust and dirt from outside. It is recommended to use doormats and remove shoes before entering the house. You should also monitor the cleanliness of pets' paws.
  3. Do not leave things scattered around: A large number of items on tables and shelves makes it difficult to clean dust. Small items should be stored in closed boxes or cabinets, which will reduce dust accumulation and simplify cleaning.
  4. Regularly clean carpets and curtains: Carpets, curtains, pillows, and blankets can collect dust. They need to be cleaned periodically, and excessive decorative fabrics should also be avoided.
  5. Use microfiber for dusting: Microfiber cloths are recommended for cleaning furniture and shelves because they effectively trap dust. Fans, corners, and areas behind furniture must be cleaned regularly.
  6. Use vacuum cleaners and air purifiers: A vacuum cleaner is useful for removing fine dust from sofas and carpets. Vacuum cleaners with HEPA filters and air purifiers can help reduce the amount of tiny dust particles in the air.
  7. Care for pet fur: Pet hair and skin particles can increase the level of dust in the house. It is important to care for them regularly and keep their beds and resting places clean.
  8. Do not ignore air conditioner filters: Air conditioner filters can accumulate dust. They should be checked and cleaned or replaced regularly according to instructions, which also helps improve air circulation.

The simplest way to protect the home from dust is by controlling gaps in windows and doors, refraining from walking in outdoor shoes inside the house, and maintaining order in belongings. Additionally, furniture should be dusted with microfiber cloths, and curtains, carpets, and pillows should be cleaned regularly.

How to grow fresh spinach in pots: from sowing seeds to harvesting in 20-35 days

Harvesting fresh spinach at home becomes especially pleasant during the cold season, as this vegetable is used in salads, parathas, and dal. Instead of constantly buying spinach in the store, it can be easily grown yourself, even if you don't have a large garden—a balcony, roof, or small garden plot is enough.

Spinach grows excellently in cool weather. If you sow the seeds correctly in early winter and provide the plants with moisture, sunlight, and suitable soil, green leaves will appear in just a few weeks. Below is a simple method for growing fresh spinach at home and important points to consider.

Spinach is a crop that develops well in a cool climate. The optimal temperature for its growth is about 8–20 degrees Celsius. If overheated, the plant begins to form flowers and seeds instead of producing leaves, which negatively affects the growth of greens. Therefore, before planting, you must take into account the weather conditions and temperature in your region.

You do not need expensive specialized pots to plant spinach; any existing household pots or wide containers will do. It is important to ensure that the bottom of the pot has drainage holes so that water from rain or watering does not stagnate. To make the soil loose, it should be mixed with organic fertilizers or compost. Choose soil that retains moisture but also allows excess water to drain freely. Overly moist soil can damage spinach roots.

First, lightly loosen the soil in the pot. Then, sow the spinach seeds to a depth of about half an inch, covering them with a thin layer of soil. Sow the seeds at a distance from each other so that the plants have enough space to develop. After this, gently water the seeds. Make sure the water is applied not in a strong stream, otherwise, the seeds may shift. It is necessary to maintain soil moisture and regularly inspect the pot. When sprouts appear, remove weak ones and those growing too close to each other so that the remaining plants can grow fully.

Spinach plants require good light and should be placed where they receive sufficient sunlight. However, during hot periods, it is better to protect them from intense midday sun. On rainy days, place the pot so that it does not receive excessive water. Always check the soil moisture before watering. If the soil is already moist, do not rush to water again. Constantly wet soil increases the risk of root and leaf diseases.

For the spinach leaves to remain green and healthy, the soil must contain the necessary nutrients. Adding compost to the soil when sowing provides the plants with initial nutrition. As they grow, you can fertilize the plants with a small amount of organic fertilizer, based on their needs. However, you should not overdo the amount of fertilizer. It is also important to remove weeds that appear in the pot, as this helps spinach obtain all the nutrients from the soil.

A feature of spinach is that its leaves can start being used quite quickly. Approximately 20–35 days after sowing the seeds, young and tender leaves can be harvested. However, the timing may vary depending on the season, seed variety, and plant care. When harvesting leaves, choose the outer parts of the plant, leaving the new central leaves for further growth. Do not cut all the leaves at once to allow the plant to continue developing and providing a harvest for a long time.

When growing spinach at home, avoid overwatering, sowing seeds too close together, and placing plants in areas with insufficient light. Waterlogging in the soil can also stop spinach growth. Furthermore, in warm weather, spinach may flower too early, which hinders normal leaf development. By following these simple rules, you can easily grow fresh spinach on a balcony or roof.

Kenya launches $160 million initiative to fund wildlife conservation

Kenya has begun implementing the Thamani Asili program, an initiative valued at $160 million. The goal of this program is to attract sustainable funding for ecosystem protection, wildlife conservation, and local community development.

The State Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Rebecca Miano, stated that this ten-year program unites the efforts of the government and nature conservation partners. It aims to protect the country's natural heritage while simultaneously promoting improved living conditions for the population, ensuring water security, enhancing climate change resilience, and achieving stable economic growth.

Miano reported that under the agreement, the government has allocated $80 million, which is supplemented by a similar amount of philanthropic support collected through The Nature Conservancy and its partner Enduring Earth. These statements were made by Miano at Tsavo West National Park in Taita Taveta County, southeastern Kenya.

By utilizing the Project Finance for Permanence model, the Thamani Asili program creates a long-term foundation. This allows conservation activities to shift from short-term funding cycles to predictable investments, institutional accountability, and measurable results.

The initiative will support nature conservation across 31 counties, helping Kenya meet its goal of effectively managing at least 30% of its land, inland waters, and coastal ecosystems.

The program provides for the creation of approximately 2.7 million hectares of new protected areas, the improvement of management for existing 11 million hectares of conservation zones, and the expansion of community authority over an additional six million hectares.

According to Miano, the initiative is expected to directly benefit about 1.6 million people, while another 3.9 million people will benefit indirectly through improved land and natural resource management and the emergence of nature-based economic opportunities.

The investments will also create around 7,800 direct jobs and 15,000 indirect jobs, opening up new prospects in ecotourism, sustainable livestock grazing, carbon initiatives, and other green enterprises.

The Director General of the Kenya Wildlife Service, Erustus Kanga, emphasized that successful conservation must protect both wildlife and the livelihoods, culture, and heritage of the communities living alongside it. Kanga noted that in Tsavo, conservation is not just about protecting wild animals, but also about preserving ways of life, respecting cultural heritage, and ensuring a future where people and wildlife thrive together.

Furthermore, Thamani Asili is expected to help avoid the emission of about 7.5 million tons of carbon by 2035, strengthening the link between nature conservation, climate action, and economic sustainability.
