Exhibition of the Idea Contest 'From Void to Value: Rethinking Tallinn's Old Town'

The vision contest exhibition titled 'From Void to Value: Reimagining Tallinn's Old Town' will take place in the Tammsaare Park Open Gallery in Tallinn. The opening is scheduled for October 16, and the exhibition will run until November 12, 2026.

The exposition showcases proposals concerning one of the most contentious urban areas in Tallinn's Old Town—the southern boundary of the Historic Centre. This area is characterized by an unresolved urban vacuum that disrupts the connection between the medieval core and the surrounding urban environment.

In response to the central theme of TAB 2026, which was 'How Much?', the contest explored the relationship between physical, social, and economic value in historical urban settings. Participants were asked to develop strategies for urban sustainability and social resilience, proposing new spatial interventions and programs for a site that has been at the center of discussions about heritage preservation and changing usage models for decades.

The exhibition features the winning projects: 'A Place Reclaimed' by Valeriy Kringberg, Martin Sepp, Kaari Maria Tirmaste, Mikael Ristmets, and Patrick Lyyk (1st place); 'Reap What You Sow' by Fred-Erik Pavel and Karmo Viherpuu (2nd place); and 'Urban Home' by Mihail Romaniuk (3rd place), in addition to five honorable mentions.
