Music star Zee Nxumalo joins the lineup of the Milk + Cookies Festival in Johannesburg in 2027

South African music star Zee Nxumalo will kick off her 2027 tour with a performance at the third Milk + Cookies Festival event, which will take place in Johannesburg on January 31st.

Organizers have confirmed Nxumalo's participation in the South African portion of the festival, adding local star power to the event, which is eagerly awaiting the headliner announcement.

In 2026, Nxumalo demonstrated outstanding results, solidifying her position as one of South Africa's leading music stars. The singer released an EP titled 'Izinja Zam Vol. I' and achieved international success by placing a billboard on the famous Times Square in New York. Furthermore, she appeared on the cover of GQ South Africa and performed at major events such as Afro Nation and Piano People in the Park in London.

Expanding her brand beyond music, Nxumalo opened her first global pop-up store, Zee’s Spaza, in South London. She has also secured partnerships with brands like Nivea and McDonald’s.

The appearance at the Milk + Cookies Festival will provide fans with another opportunity to see this hitmaker live as she gains momentum in 2027.

Meanwhile, Elaine and Chelsea Sloan have been confirmed for the Cape Town leg of the festival.

Chase Freeman, Marketing Director for Milk + Cookies, stated: 'Never the same sound, always the same feeling.' He added that their only guide is that they 'book for the people in the room, not for the genre, and they come for how the room feels, just as much as for the name on the poster.'

Despite the buzz generated by the announcement of local acts, festival attendees are still waiting to find out who will headline in Johannesburg. Organizers reported that the headliner information will be revealed on Friday at 10:00 AM, creating high anticipation following previous editions of the festival in South Africa.

The Milk + Cookies Festival previously featured international acts such as Gunna and Kaytranada, raising the question of which global star might appear next. This upcoming announcement is likely to be a major topic of discussion among fans, especially those hoping the festival will once again feature a major international name alongside local talent.

The third edition of the Milk + Cookies Festival will take place in Johannesburg on January 31, 2027, with Nxumalo among the confirmed participants. The Cape Town leg of the festival will feature Elaine and Chelsea Sloan, and further details about the Johannesburg headliner are expected on Friday at 10:00 AM.

Beyond music, organizers emphasize that their focus is on creating a festival that reflects the communities in which it takes place. Kevin Rhys, co-founder of Milk + Cookies, noted: 'We came here to put on a show, and what we found changed how we do it everywhere. After three years, it's not a visit. We build it together with the people who live here, and it belongs to them as much as it does to us. Jobs, vendors, artists in the program—that's what we are most proud of.'
