Apple's iPhone Duo sells out quickly in the UAE amid high demand

Demand for Apple's new foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, has exceeded supply in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), as some retailers reported that the initial stock was completely sold out within hours of the sales launch. Others noted temporary unavailability of certain configurations.

The release of Apple's first foldable smartphone is scheduled for October 23, 2026, in the UAE, with pre-orders opening on October 16. The initial price of the device is 8,499 dirhams, but strong demand may lead to delivery delays for current buyers.

A representative from Jumbo stated in a release to Khaleej Times that 'the Apple Duo started very strongly. Demand for the product, despite its high cost, exceeded our expectations. Due to this high demand, we sold out the product within hours of the launch. Consumers were waiting for a new option from Apple, and they liked it very much.'

In the UAE, the prices for the Duo are set as follows: 8,499 dirhams for the 256GB version, 9,349 dirhams for 512GB, 11,049 dirhams for 1TB, and 13,599 dirhams for 2TB, making it the most expensive phone from Apple currently.

As previously reported by Khaleej Times, dealers in Deira indicated that some buyers are willing to pay a premium of up to 2,500 dirhams for immediate availability. Analysts also predict that Apple will sell all manufactured units of the iPhone Duo, although the high price may hinder sales in the UAE due to a significant price gap with competing foldable models such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8, which costs approximately 3,000 dirhams less.

Mohammed Yusuf Badri, Director of Eros Group, noted a similar positive reaction, especially among customers attracted by the foldable design. However, he emphasized that product availability varies depending on color and memory configuration. Badri added that 'certain variants may be temporarily unavailable, in which case customers will have to wait for the next shipment.' The retail chain is working with its supply partners to replenish stock and minimize waiting times.

Badri also urged caution when assessing the duration of this momentum, noting: 'There is a difference between initial excitement and sustained demand.' He reported that the company is tracking customer inquiries, actual orders, and inventory movement to assess how interest translates into sales. According to Badri, the 512GB version generates the most interest, followed by the 1TB and 256GB models. Regarding colors, male buyers prefer Night Sky, while Star White proved more popular among women, though overall interest in both shades was 'quite balanced.'

The iPhone Duo is significantly more expensive than the iPhone 18 Pro Max, which starts from 5,499 dirhams in the UAE, so Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) options may appeal to buyers. The Director of Eros Group believes that flexible payment options become more relevant at such a high price and can make higher storage versions more accessible. Although some customers prefer to pay upfront, while others wish to spread the cost, there is no evidence of a serious shift towards installment payments. He concluded: 'I would not want to assume there has been a serious shift towards installment payments without factual data to confirm it.'

Buyers in Dubai Expect Foldable iPhone Duo from Apple Not Until January 2027 Due to High Demand

Some residents of the United Arab Emirates are forced to wait until January 2027 to receive the foldable iPhone Duo from Apple because delivery times have significantly shifted due to growing demand.

Pre-orders for the iPhone Duo started on Friday, October 16, at 4:00 PM, although it was initially planned that the device would arrive in stores and reach customers starting October 23. However, residents who tried to reserve the phone on the first day of sales noticed a rapid change in available delivery dates as interest in the product grew.

Emad Hayyam, a financial specialist and resident of the JLT area, reported that delivery dates began shifting almost immediately after pre-orders opened in the UAE. He noted: 'Within a minute, I saw the dates jump week after week. By the time I completed the reservation, the earliest slot I managed to get was in January 2027.'

Despite the long wait, Hayyam placed an order, stating that he would eagerly await receiving the device.

Meanwhile, Osman Malik, a resident of Deira, managed to reserve slots to receive the phone on the first day. He recounted that he acted very quickly as soon as the booking page opened, focusing so intently on placing the order that he barely noticed what was happening around him. 'I managed to book two phones for delivery on October 23,' he shared. When friends and relatives asked him to book phones for them, the delivery date had already shifted to November 23.

Malik expressed happiness about being one of the first buyers of Apple's new foldable phone, noting: 'I am glad I can use it on the first day of delivery.'

Saeed Kazim, another buyer, could not secure an October slot and instead received a November delivery date. He commented on the situation: 'This never happens. Usually, the delivery date shifts forward weekly as slots fill up. This time, it suddenly jumped almost a month.'

He concluded that the sharp change demonstrates high demand for the new Apple model. 'Very few will get it on the first day. Most buyers will only get it after a month, but people are still willing to wait because it is a brand new Apple model.'

For Samira Ali, the phone was intended as a gift from her husband for their wedding anniversary, which was on November 2. She reported that this was the only gift she had been asking for for a long time, and her family placed an order for at least one device together. 'The booking page opened for us at 4:18 PM, but the next available delivery date was only at the end of December,' she said. 'We still ordered it, but I will receive my gift late.'

Samira expressed disappointment that she wouldn't receive it by the anniversary date but was not upset, adding: 'We sincerely thought we could get at least one phone.'

Mobile phone dealers in Dubai suggested that the delays might push some buyers toward the local market, where those needing immediate availability will have to pay extra.

Mudin Mustafa from the Phone Line market in Deira previously stated that some buyers are willing to pay up to 2500 dirhams to receive the iPhone Duo on its release day.
