Singapore Airlines updates in-flight entertainment system with enhanced features

Singapore Airlines has announced a significant update to its in-flight entertainment experience to make journeys more engaging for passengers who prefer watching movies, streaming series, or using their phones during long flights.

The new system, named next-generation KrisWorld, will integrate clearer screens, improved sound, personalization options, and an enhanced focus on connectivity. It offers over 2500 entertainment options, which is expected to keep passengers occupied during the flight.

These improvements will be rolled out in phases on select aircraft starting in 2027, and high-speed Starlink connectivity is also planned for installation.

The key change is the shift towards a more individualized entertainment experience, thanks to technologies that give passengers greater control over how they spend their time in the air.

The updated KrisWorld system will feature high-resolution 4K touch displays, including OLED screens on some aircraft and in specific cabin classes. This means passengers can enjoy a sharper picture when watching movies and TV shows.

Attention has also been paid to sound: spatial audio has been implemented to provide a richer and more immersive listening experience. Other features include active noise-cancelling headphones, Bluetooth connectivity for personal headphones, and a redesigned user interface that simplifies finding entertainment content.

Furthermore, personalization features and a new wellness planner will be added, allowing passengers to tailor their experience to their needs. The main goal is to simplify the search for content to watch, listen to, or engage in without lengthy searches within the entertainment system.

Singapore Airlines offers a wide selection through the updated KrisWorld system, providing access to over 2500 entertainment options. Passengers can choose from movies, TV shows, music, and other content, and the new interface will make the process of discovering and enjoying entertainment simpler.

These changes are a result of customer feedback, which indicated a desire for greater flexibility in utilizing onboard time. Mr. Yeoh Phee Teik, Senior Vice President of Customer Experience at Singapore Airlines, noted that the airline used customer reviews to develop the new entertainment and connectivity offering.

He emphasized that the goal was to simplify content discovery for passengers, maintain connection with loved ones, and switch between entertainment and other activities during the flight.

Yes, Bluetooth pairing support is one of the planned features of the new KrisWorld system. This will allow passengers to connect their personal Bluetooth headphones to the entertainment system, offering an alternative to the provided onboard headphones.

Combined with improved sound and active noise-cancelling headphones, this update aims to give passengers greater freedom in choosing how they consume entertainment content. This is welcomed by those who prefer traveling with their own headphones.

Beyond entertainment, many travelers want to stay connected while traveling—whether it's communicating with family, browsing social media, gaming, or working. Singapore Airlines plans to gradually introduce high-speed Starlink connectivity starting in early 2027 on its long-haul Airbus A380, A350-900, and ultra-long-haul A350-900 aircraft.

This service is intended to complement the updated KrisWorld experience by giving passengers more opportunities for content streaming, connecting with relatives, and continuing online activities during travel. For those facing particularly long flights, having additional ways to connect can make the time in the air more flexible.

Implementation will be phased, so the new connection will not be available on all Singapore Airlines flights immediately.

Passengers will have to wait to take advantage of the full range of updates. Singapore Airlines plans to introduce next-generation KrisWorld on 41 modernized long-haul Airbus A350-900 and ultra-long-haul A350-900 aircraft, with these planes expected to begin phased operations from 2027. The system will also appear on the airline's upcoming Boeing 777-9 aircraft.

The rollout of Starlink connectivity is scheduled in phases, starting in early 2027, on selected Airbus A380 and A350 aircraft. Specific available features will depend on the aircraft type and cabin class.

The entertainment and connectivity upgrades are part of a broader plan to enhance the passenger experience, rather than just a standalone technological update. Singapore Airlines states that these changes will complement its next-generation long-haul cabin products, updated meal options, new amenities across all cabin classes, and improved ground services.

The airline intends to unveil this broader spectrum of travel enhancements in Singapore in November 2026. For passengers, these changes signal a more connected and personalized journey with greater choice in how they spend their time from takeoff to landing. When planning a long flight, having more entertainment, better device connectivity options, and the prospect of high-speed internet can make the hours in the air more enjoyable.
