Ishan Kishan could break records in the India vs New Zealand T20I series

This Indian wicketkeeper-batsman is only 46 runs away from reaching the 2000-run mark in T20 International format. Furthermore, he potentially could surpass records set by Suryakumar Yadav and Mohammad Rizwan of Pakistan.

The five-match T20I series between India and New Zealand kicks off on Thursday, October 22, with the first match scheduled in Christchurch. Kishan is in excellent form this year and has made an impression playing at number three.

During the T20I series, the captains will meet to present the trophy in Christchurch, promising an exciting confrontation between the two teams.

Another goal for Ishan Kishan is the record held by Mohammad Rizwan of Pakistan. Rizwan scored 1326 T20I runs in 29 matches in 2021, recording one century and 12 half-centuries. To set the record for the most T20I runs in a calendar year among batsmen playing in Test nations, Kishan needs 139 more runs.

He has scored 1760 runs in 49 matches played in 49 innings, with an average of 38.26 and a strike rate above 175, including one century and 13 half-centuries. Previously, this milestone was achieved by Nicholas Pooran of West Indies (2331 runs) and Mohammad Rizwan (2036 runs in 2024), and Kishan could become the first Indian player to achieve this result.

In the third T20 match between India and West India, held at Holkar Stadium in Indore, Indian opening batsman Abhishek Sharma attracted the attention of spectators with his impressive performance. He achieved a historic feat by setting a world record for the fastest accumulation of 2000 runs in international T20 cricket.

Thus, Abhishek Sharma surpassed a significant record previously held by the former T20 captain of the team, Suryakumar Yadav. The twenty-six-year-old left-hander Abhishek reached this mark by facing only 1024 balls.

After setting the record, Abhishek continued to demonstrate excellent play, hitting a half-century in just 18 balls. Following an unsuccessful performance in the first match, Abhishek unleashed a flurry of sixes and fours on the field in Indore.

In the second over of the match, Abhishek hit two powerful sixes and hit a boundary over the cover off a ball bowled by Chase. He also successfully hit balls from Sharma Springer and Sharma Joseph outside the boundary.

After Sandeep Samson was dismissed for a small number of runs, Abhishek built a rapid partnership with Ishan Kishan, scoring a half-century in just 20 balls. Abhishek himself scored 69 runs, using 6 fours and 5 sixes off 30 balls. However, his innings ended in the tenth over when Springer caught him.
