A 110-year-old Spanish woman finally received her university diploma after nearly nine decades, as the document had never been issued to her before.
Isaura, who turned 110, completed a primary teacher course at the University of Leon in 1937 during the Spanish Civil War.
After almost nine decades of waiting, the elderly woman was presented with an academic certificate and also given a silver spathula.
The university's Instagram post stated: 'We were finally able to present the primary education teacher's diploma to Ms. Isaura Martín Granizo, a 110-year-old lady who finished her studies in 1937 but could not receive it due to the political circumstances of that time.'
The same post added: 'Talking with Isaura was a real gift and experience that reminds us of the value of education and the importance of completing stories that have long awaited their moment.'
According to Telecinco, the reason Isaura did not receive the diploma upon finishing the course is related to the fact that Spain was experiencing a civil war at that time. The Spanish Civil War began in 1936 following a military coup against the legitimately elected republican government and ended in 1939.
