Rubio and Ambani discussed energy, digital infrastructure, and gigafactories at the Jamnagar refinery

During his visit to the Jamnagar refinery, RIL Chairman Mukesh Ambani demonstrated his initiatives in data centers and new energy gigafactories to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

However, the main topic of discussion remained oil and gas, especially against the backdrop of US issues with rising fuel prices and low diesel reserves.

According to US Ambassador to India Sergio Gora, imports of American liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) into India have increased from less than 10% to 67% over the past year, making the US the largest supplier of LPG to India. Furthermore, planned Reliance investments in the first new refinery in the US in 50 years are viewed as a significant opportunity to expand American energy production and create jobs.

Previously, US President Donald Trump announced the construction of a $300 billion refinery in the US, and RIL was part of his plan to revitalize industry and restore lost jobs in the country, although the Mukesh Ambani-led company has not yet disclosed details.

Reliance's importance has grown because the complex in Jamnagar is capable of processing heavy Venezuelan crude oil. The acquisition of Venezuelan oil reserves by American companies was one of Trump's proud achievements.

Rubio's visit to Jamnagar came amid clear signals of US interest in enhanced processing of Venezuelan crude oil. Outside the US, RIL is the largest consumer of Venezuelan crude oil.

Marco Rubio noted: 'This is a very large and visible energy company. They also have quite large investments in the US already. They possess extensive refining capacity. As I mentioned before, this is a company that, for example, has the ability to process heavy crude oil produced in the Western Hemisphere, including from Venezuela, so I am confident this is a topic we will discuss. I think during our conversations we hope to find other opportunities for partnership and collaboration.'

In a statement from RIL, it was mentioned: 'Secretary Rubio and Ambassador Gora were also presented with Reliance's new energy gigafactories, which are currently being commissioned in phases, as well as data centers under construction. The tour provided an overview of the company's investments in energy and digital infrastructure, combining its well-established capabilities in advanced manufacturing and deep technologies.'

The discussions, which also included Executive Director Anant Ambani, focused on the intersection of energy and digital infrastructure, including powering data centers.

Marco Rubio visited Indian complex capable of processing Venezuela's heavy oil

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited a refinery complex in Jamnagar, India. This complex includes the world's largest refining facility, which is capable of processing heavy crude oil from Venezuela.

According to the American ambassador to India, Sergio Gora, who shared his impressions on the social network X, it was an honor to accompany Secretary Rubio to the facilities of Reliance Industries in Jamnagar.

During the visit, Rubio, his wife Jannette Rubio, and the ambassador accompanied almost the entire family of tycoon Mukesh Ambani—Asia's richest man. His son Anant Ambani and his wife were among those present, according to a photo published by the diplomat on X.

Reliance Industries stated in its announcement that the Ambani family presented a long-term vision for the Jamnagar complex. The visit also included comprehensive discussions on the global energy situation and possibilities for commercial cooperation in the energy sector.

According to the company, Mukesh Ambani and his son Anant spent hours meeting with Rubio and Gora to discuss ensuring 'reliable and affordable energy supply.'

This visit to the complex, through which much of the crude oil imported by New Delhi from Moscow passes, took place after Rubio called India an 'energy processing superpower' on Tuesday and announced intentions to discuss a plan to process more Venezuelan oil at this facility.

The facilities in Jamnagar are one of the few petrochemical infrastructures globally technically designed to handle ultra-heavy Venezuelan crude oil, known as Merey 16. Previously, Reliance was one of the largest global buyers of Venezuelan oil before international sanctions were imposed.

In June, the complex in India was also visited by the interim President of Venezuela, Dilcy Rodríguez. The visit occurred against the backdrop of a sharp rise in diesel prices in the United States ahead of midterm elections.

In March, US President Donald Trump announced that Reliance would create a partnership to build the first and largest refinery in the US in 50 years in Brownsville, Texas.

Before traveling to the coastal city of Gujarat, Rubio met in Bombay with Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani, and subsequently with N. Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Sons—from the Tata Group. These businessmen are considered among the wealthiest and most influential in the country, according to the local agency PTI.
