A modern seedling cultivation center has been established in the Guzar district of the Kashkadarya region in Uzbekistan. This facility is part of the nationwide 'Yashil Maqon' (Green Space) project. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev personally inspected the center's operations during his visit to the region.
The total cost of the project is 9.5 billion soms. The complex covers an area of 65 hectares and has created approximately 100 jobs. Its main objective is to supply mahallas with quality planting material, expand green areas, and create additional income opportunities for local residents.
Within the complex, 50 hectares are allocated for ornamental trees, five hectares for fruit crops, and another three hectares for shrubs and flowers. Initially, the center plans to produce 1.6 million seedlings annually, but the production volume is expected to grow to 5 million. The collection includes 41 species of ornamental and coniferous trees.
The center's infrastructure includes a greenhouse, open cultivation areas, seed germination rooms, and shelters. Three membrane reservoirs with a total capacity of 4,200 cubic meters have been installed, and drip irrigation has been implemented across 20 hectares. Furthermore, the center utilizes equipment for compost and mulch production, as well as solar panels.
The application of modern technologies allows for year-round seedling cultivation, including periods outside the traditional planting season. According to the project assessment, this could increase production volumes eight to ten times compared to conventional methods and reduce water consumption threefold. A 30–40% reduction in seedling production costs is also forecasted.
The center will provide landscaping services to mahallas by supplying trees and shrubs, caring for damaged plants, applying mulching, and installing drip irrigation systems. A forest mentor will be assigned to each mahalla. Before each planting season, training sessions will be held for members of the 'mahalla semi'—local community representatives.
Local residents can also participate in growing planting material. Under cooperation agreements, families can receive young plants, grow them on their home plots for one or two seasons, and then sell the mature seedlings to the center. The center guarantees the purchase of these plants, providing participating families with an additional source of income.
This project supports efforts to increase green spaces and strengthen the role of mahallas in local landscaping. Corresponding measures are enshrined in the presidential decree of September 23, 2026, which also establishes the '3–30–300' principle. During his visit, Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of the tradition of tree planting and garden creation. He was informed about the center's capacity to supply planting material to mahallas and increase household incomes.
