Pioneer launches 1985-style cassette radio with Bluetooth and USB

Pioneer is launching a new car radio that replicates the appearance of an 1980s cassette player, but incorporates modern features such as Bluetooth and USB ports hidden in the simulated tape drawer.

The SXT-C10PS model will initially be released in the United States, accompanied by a pair of 'box' format speakers characteristic of vehicles from that decade. This set is part of the Heritage Collection, which was developed in collaboration with RADwood, an event focused on the culture and cars of the 1980s and 1990s.

Pre-orders are already available on the brand's website, with delivery expected starting November 2nd. Although this radio was available in Europe the previous year, its design is inspired by the Pioneer KE-3080 cassette player from 1985, and it fits the 1-DIN standard, the rectangular format common in older car dashboards.

Behind the compartment simulating the tape input, there is a USB port and an auxiliary input. The unit retains physical buttons while also offering adjustable lighting and app control.

In the version intended for the American market, the device is capable of receiving HD Radio signals, which is the US digital radio standard and is not present in Brazil, and it is also compatible with the SiriusXM satellite radio service. It is important to note that it does not support Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

In terms of audio, the internal amplification has four channels, providing 22W continuous power per channel and peaks of up to 50W. Additionally, it features six pre-amplification RCA outputs at 4V, allowing connection to external amplifiers and subwoofers.

The TS-X40SXT speakers are overlay type and use a three-way system with a bass-reflex port. According to the manufacturer, they support 25W continuous and 100W peaks.

The cost of the radio is approximately R$ 2,500 (equivalent to US$ 499), while the pair of boxes costs about R$ 1,500 (US$ 300). Customers who register their email on the Pioneer website will receive a 10% discount. In the Brazilian context, a similar unit would be suitable for classic models like Chevrolet Monza and Volkswagen Santana, but the line has no planned launch in the country, where Pioneer closed its factory in the Manaus Free Trade Zone in 2025.
