Storms and 12°C temperature drops hit Southern and Southeastern states

According to Inmet, rain will intensify again in the western part of the South Region this Wednesday, the 21st, and is expected to extend to the Southeast and Central-West regions on Thursday, the 22nd. Forecasts indicate the occurrence of storms and temperature reduction in several capitals.

While precipitation is distributed across the south-central part of the country, the interior of the Northeast will feature intense sun, with temperatures potentially reaching 40°C and low atmospheric humidity. Rain events persist in the western areas of the North Region.

In the South Region, rain is expected to affect more locations over the two days. On Thursday, all three states will be under yellow alert for potential storms. Rainfall may be heavier in the south and east of Paraná, much of Santa Catarina, and in the west and north of Rio Grande do Sul.

Instability is also increasing in the Southeast. For Thursday, showers accompanied by thunderstorms are expected in parts of São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, and Espírito Santo. In the Central-West, rain is strengthening in Mato Grosso, Goiás, and Mato Grosso do Sul.

Inmet clarifies that the climate variation is related to changes in wind circulation over South America. The cloud band that previously favored rain in parts of the west and south of the Northeast should weaken this Wednesday. With the arrival of a dry air mass from the interior, precipitation decreases and the sun dominates most of the region.

Temperatures will be high. Teresina (PI) may record up to 40°C on Thursday. Other forecasts include a maximum of 33°C in São Luís (MA) and 32°C in Fortaleza (CE) and Maceió (AL).

Due to little rain and the predominance of sunshine, air humidity tends to drop, especially in the afternoon. On the northeastern coast, there is still a chance of isolated rains between Ceará and Bahia. Specifically in the area of Porto Seguro, in southern Bahia, rain may occur more frequently.

Greater cloud cover and rain should restrict the increase in temperatures in certain capitals. São Paulo (SP) has a forecast maximum of only 24°C on Thursday, while Curitiba (PR) and Florianópolis (SC) should not exceed 21°C.

In the North, heat persists even in locations with rain forecasts. Boa Vista (RR) may reach 37°C on Thursday, and Rio Branco (AC) has a forecasted minimum of 23°C.
