Wolfkop Weekender announces first artists for 2027 festival in Cederberg

Wolfkop Weekender has confirmed its return to Cederberg from January 14 to 18, 2027, promising five days of electronic music, outdoor activities, and community in one of South Africa's most picturesque natural locations.

The initial lineup of artists for the January 2027 edition includes international acts Deer Jade, Parallele, Un*Deux, and Fabian Krooss, while organizers plan to introduce more local performers and additional events later.

The festival, held in the Cederberg mountains, offers an alternative to traditional music events. In addition to a carefully curated electronic music program, the event encourages guests to spend time outdoors, swimming in the river, sharing meals, and dancing under the stars.

The five-day gathering is built around the concept of connection, providing opportunities for both energetic dance sessions and quieter moments in nature. Guests can regulate their own pace of participation, combining music and socializing with opportunities to relax in the surrounding landscape.

Wolfkop was founded in December 2012 as an intimate gathering of only 60 friends. Since then, it has evolved into a destination for festival-goers seeking a deeper experience where atmosphere and sense of community are as important as the music itself.

Werner Röntgen noted that they demonstrated the possibility of running a festival without sponsorship or advertising, emphasizing that the essence of the event goes beyond music. He stated: 'It is the river, the mountains, the food, the accommodation, the activities, and most importantly, the feeling of belonging to the collective.'

This approach remains central to the 2027 iteration. Organizers continue to prioritize a carefully selected musical program, participant well-being, and the freedom for visitors to shape their own festival experience.

More artists and activities are expected to be announced in the coming months. Furthermore, organizers are exploring new locations and unexpected experiences for 2027, offering both returning and new guests opportunities to discover more that the festival has to offer.

Beyond the musical focus, Wolfkop Weekender strives to protect the natural environment that gives the festival its unique character. Supporting small businesses, as well as promoting diversity and inclusivity, are part of the festival's broader vision.

The festival's journey has been marked by significant challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and three major floods. Thanks to continuous support from the community and partners, these obstacles have been overcome and growth achieved.

For Röntgen, the long-term value of the festival lies in the experiences people take away, not in the number of attendees. He hopes people will remember new friendships, feelings of liberation, and moments like swimming in the river, dancing barefoot, meeting lifelong friends, waking up among the Cederberg mountains, or sharing a meal around a campfire.

With Wolfkop Weekender returning from January 14 to 18, 2027, visitors can expect five days of electronic music, outdoor adventures, and shared experiences in Cederberg. The festival offers a different way to experience the South African festival season for those seeking a summer getaway that combines music, nature, and community.
