Meta's AI Agent Muse exposes contracts and spreadsheets due to security flaw in sharing feature

Meta's artificial intelligence agent Muse exposed approximately seven thousand conversations on the internet due to a vulnerability in its sharing feature. The security flaw was identified by the cybersecurity company Claroc and reported to Meta, which subsequently suspended the tool.

Although the URLs were designed to display only snippets of conversations and files, the security weakness allowed access to comprehensive content, ranging from the initial topic of the chat to full pages containing potentially confidential information.

The incident was reported by the Ars Technica portal, which requested an official statement. In response, Meta mentioned that the discovery falls under its Bug Bounty Program and that such occurrences are crucial for product improvement. Mark Zuckerberg's company confirmed it had halted the feature while implementing the necessary adjustments.

Document sharing is a common practice in the digital environment, whether for calendars, texts on platforms like Google Docs, or presentations in PowerPoint. Services like Google Drive generally offer multiple layers of protection, including login and password authentication.

Unlike these services, Meta Muse shared conversations and files in this manner, publishing the interaction as an open page accessible to anyone who possessed the link. Additionally, these pages could be located through a simple title related to the conversation topic, given that the URLs were made available on the public domain cf.metaaiusercontent.com.

Among the leaked data were sensitive documents, such as contracts containing names and values, as well as internal spreadsheets and calendars from real companies. According to Claroc, analyzing just a few hundred of these nearly seven thousand links was enough to demonstrate the magnitude of the problem.

It is relevant to note that Meta had launched Muse emphasizing privacy as a fundamental principle, using exclusive virtual machines for each user, which aimed to prevent the company itself from accessing the interactions.

The alert was sent to Meta on October 8th. The Claroc team reported reviewing the material again on the 18th, at which time new Muse conversation URLs could still be located. In addition to the survey, Claroc also proposed several security measures.

Meta only confirmed the pause on new sharing this Tuesday (10/20), following inquiries from the Ars Technica portal, meaning the functionality remained active for at least 12 days. Currently, Meta Muse is only available in the United States and Canada, with no forecast for launch in other markets, such as Brazil.

Meta launches Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full, its new advanced AIs for personal and professional agents

Meta announced the launch of two new artificial intelligence models: Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full. These systems were developed to act as agents in both personal and professional contexts, presented by the company as the most powerful it has ever created.

With this launch, Meta intensifies competition against top models offered by competitors such as OpenAI and Anthropic. The models were specifically trained to handle complex tasks requiring multiple steps, such as analyzing contractual documents, developing applications, and using browsers or other software.

Among the highlighted innovations is the Active Memory feature, which allows the model to retain relevant data between different conversations and access it in new activities. Additionally, Active Focus was implemented to ensure that the agent maintains its work even when faced with difficulties.

Meta detailed that the model has the ability to seek alternative paths when encountering obstacles, adjust its planning as new information emerges, and request assistance from the user when necessary. Furthermore, before executing any action considered important, the system requests prior confirmation.

This new functionality integrates the mentioned capabilities with the ability to operate computers. In demonstrations conducted by Meta, it was possible to observe Muse Wonder using a browser and various applications to create and order items from photographs taken from an Instagram profile. The model was also trained in programming, allowing it to distribute projects among sub-agents, modify multiple files, and continue working even in the face of errors.

These additions expand the functionalities of Muse, which already had the ability to navigate websites and fill out forms autonomously—a level of independence that previously caused issues, such as service blocking on the Amazon store following allegations of inadequate identification.

Muse Wonder is already available to developers for a cost of $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens (which equates, in direct conversion, to approximately R$ 20 and R$ 100, respectively). Muse Wonder Full, being the more sophisticated version, is restricted to paid Muse Code plans and does not have an individual token-based fee.

The large technology company assures that Muse Wonder and Wonder Full achieve excellent performance in evaluations related to programming, memory, and professional agents. The company emphasizes extensive software development tasks and activities in sectors such as finance, healthcare, and law, while noting that results should be analyzed cautiously, as part of the comparisons was conducted or selected by Meta itself.

In independent tests conducted by Artificial Analysis, Muse Wonder scored 52 on the Intelligence Index, an index that consolidates assessments of reasoning, programming, and other skills. Muse Wonder Full achieved 56 points. Both surpassed Muse Spark 1.3, which recorded 48, but fell short of Claude Opus 5.5, which reached 58.

Meta informed that Muse Wonder will be made available in the Muse app in the near future, initially only for subscribers. Currently, the service remains primarily restricted to the United States and Canada, with no forecast for a launch in Brazil.
