Mohammad Shammi comments on retirement rumors and being ignored by the national team

The experienced fast bowler from the Indian team, Mohammad Shammi, recently shared his thoughts in an interview. He openly spoke about the constant disregard from the Indian national team, as well as discussions on social media regarding his possible retirement.

Responding to the question about not being included in the squad, Shammi stated directly that if his level of play and physical condition allow him to contend for a spot in the team, he should be selected. If selectors consider him incapable, they should freely leave him out and give a chance to a more suitable player, because ultimately, the victory must belong to the country.

Discussing rumors of jealousy, anger, or hatred, Shammi sarcastically noted when speaking with Sports Tak that he harbors none of these feelings towards anyone. However, he questioned why he was asked this, emphasizing that he is merely an athlete and a performer. He believes that only those who have the right should ask this question.

Shammi sharply criticized the spectacle on social media concerning players leaving and their careers. Mentioning titans such as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, he stated that today it has turned into a kind of social media trial. He noted that some people create a storm out of trifles solely for views and likes.

In response to the question about retirement, Shammi gave a touching answer, saying: 'My name is Mohammad Shammi. I have achieved a lot for the country. The day I get tired of waking up at 6:30 or 7:00 AM and going onto the field, I will say myself that enough is enough. But as long as I am not tired. As long as there is life in my body, I will play.'

Shammi clearly stated that the right to decide on his retirement belongs only to the player who has dedicated 15–17 years to the country, broken his own records, and worked on the field. No one else has the right to decide that this player's time is up. He added that he has no problem being selected based on performance, as performance can fluctuate, since a person is not a machine. However, when it comes to retirement or ending a career, this decision must remain with the athlete himself. Who else can decide for you?
