A project is being implemented in Uzbekistan to increase lemon production through the construction of energy-saving greenhouses, which will then be handed over to businesses in a fully ready state. The project's implementation is scheduled to begin in the Balykchinsky district, and subsequently, such complexes will be created in other regions of the country.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev recently reviewed this project on the development of lemon cultivation. Specifically, the Balykchinsky district includes the construction of energy-saving greenhouses with a total area of 100 hectares, located near nine mahallas.
These greenhouses will be transferred to entrepreneurs ready for immediate operation. The production cycle will be integrated into a unified system covering all stages: from cultivation to sorting, processing, packaging, storage, and subsequent sale.
Significant emphasis is placed on assisting low-income and unemployed segments of the population: it is expected that at least a thousand people will be employed within the framework of 500 greenhouses. Furthermore, families will be able to generate income even before the lemons bear fruit by using the rows to grow other agricultural crops.
The experience gained in the Balykchinsky district is planned to be replicated across the entire country. Next year, greenhouse complexes with a total area of 200 hectares will be built in the regions, potentially increasing the income of approximately two thousand families.
The President issued an instruction regarding the need to provide financial support for this initiative and compensate citizens for training costs in lemon cultivation skills. It was previously announced that Uzbekistan has received permission to export lemons, as well as apples, figs, and hot peppers, to the Pakistani market.
