The Louvre Museum in Paris was closed on Monday (the 19th) due to protests. Students blocked access to the institution to support the mobilization of secondary school students and to protest against police pressure.
According to French press, the action was organized by students from the Louvre School and prevented the museum's usual opening, which was scheduled for 9 am.
On Tuesday (the 20th), the Louvre remains closed in accordance with its regular weekly day off. Operations are expected to resume on Wednesday (the 21st), when the museum will function under normal hours from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, offering an extended evening schedule. There are currently no official announcements regarding a suspension of activities on Wednesday, but visitors are advised to check the museum's website before visiting.
Recent protests, which took place last Saturday (the 17th), were triggered by the rising cost of living, issues in public education, and dissatisfaction with the French government's policies. These demonstrations gathered between 550,000 and 800,000 people across the country, according to official estimates and organizers' data.
Although most actions proceeded peacefully, clashes, fires, looting, and acts of vandalism occurred in Paris and other cities such as Lyon and Marseille. Tensions resurfaced in the capital on Sunday. The government announced increased security measures and requested the introduction of partial curfews in some cities; the situation is under the authorities' observation.
