Uzbekistan approves bill on establishing a joint professional holiday for medical and pharmaceutical workers

The legislative chamber, Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, adopted a bill that provides for the establishment of a unified professional holiday for employees in the medical and pharmaceutical sectors. This document was sent to the Senate for further consideration.

The proposed changes include replacing the wording 'medical workers' with 'medical and pharmaceutical workers' in current legislation. This professional holiday will be celebrated on the second Sunday of November.

During the parliamentary session, it was noted that over 50,000 specialists work in the pharmaceutical sector in Uzbekistan. The population is served by 504 drug manufacturing enterprises, 478 distribution organizations, and more than 14,000 pharmacies.

The bill's authors believe that the introduced amendments will allow the terminology used in the law on professional holidays to align with the concepts set out in the laws 'On the Protection of Citizens' Health' and 'On Medicines and Pharmaceutical Activities.' It is expected that these changes will contribute to raising the social status of pharmaceutical workers and ensuring greater moral and material support for them.
