The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, reviewed proposals concerning the development of tourist services at reservoirs, increasing the level of safety for vacationers, and ensuring the proper operation of hydraulic structures.
Currently, tourism activities are conducted at five reservoirs in the country, but there is potential to introduce similar services at another twenty-five sites. This, according to forecasts, will attract new investments, create jobs, and increase the number of visitors.
To support local entrepreneurs operating near water bodies, it was proposed to halve land and property tax rates until October 1, 2029. Furthermore, the possibility of granting a deferral or installment plan for customs payments for 120 days when importing GPS equipment, as well as rescue and protective gear, is being considered. Revenues from the sale of land plots in these areas are planned to be directed towards improving road infrastructure and external engineering networks.
In parallel, stricter water safety rules are planned. To achieve this, it is proposed to introduce a certification system for tourist services and oblige businesses to conclude agreements with relevant rescue services. Recreation areas near water bodies must be equipped with lifeboats, observation towers, and depth markers to minimize risks and ensure prompt assistance.
Since rescue services have only been established at four out of fifty-six operating reservoirs in the republic, a proposal has been put forward to create professional units using the experience of the 'Karkidon' reservoir. The technical status of hydraulic structures was also assessed during the presentation, with specialists having already inspected twenty-five sites on location. To promptly detect any alarming changes, it is planned to expand the use of digital monitoring tools, including seismological equipment, video surveillance, and local alert systems.
At the conclusion of the discussion, the head of state instructed the responsible agencies on the necessity of establishing professional rescue groups at the reservoirs and approving clear safety standards for all tourist facilities.
