Government plans to create a new system for monitoring Starlink satellite internet

The government is preparing to take significant steps in the field of security before Elon Musk's company Starlink begins its operations in India. Specifically, there is consideration of creating a dedicated device to monitor foreign satellite internet companies, including Starlink.

This device will allow for the observation of satellite internet traffic. Currently, this initiative is in the discussion phase, and a final decision has not been made.

According to available reports, the government is considering the development of specialized hardware. This device will function as a security checkpoint between users and foreign satellite networks. Simply put, traffic related to satellite internet will be able to pass through this hardware.

There is also consideration of installing this device either in the user's home or at a ground satellite station. State research institutes and, if necessary, private companies may be involved in implementing the project. Currently, there is no clear information on exactly how this device will work or when it will be ready.

The government's concern is not limited only to providing internet services. Satellite networks can be used for communication and security-related tasks. In such circumstances, dependence on foreign companies' networks during emergencies related to war or national security raises concerns.

For this reason, the government insists that foreign companies operating in India comply with security regulations. The new device could be a step in this direction.

To begin providing its services in India, Starlink must obtain the necessary permits and meet security requirements. It is currently unclear how the new government scheme will affect the company's launch. The proposal to create the monitoring device is still in its initial stages, so information regarding the implementation date and methods of operation must be awaited.
