The Travel Trends report, released annually by the flight search engine Skyscanner, presents the main travel trends projected for the following year. The edition for 2027 was presented at an event held on October 15th in São Paulo, with the participation of VT.
To compile these trends, the study analyzed data from surveys conducted on the platform, along with responses collected from 28 thousand travelers from various nations, including one thousand Brazilians.
Bryan Batista, CEO of Skyscanner, commented that travel is entering a new phase. He stated that as people become more conscious about how they manage their time and financial resources, they begin to make different decisions regarding destinations, booking methods, and what provides them lasting value.
One of the observed trends is the desire to disconnect from digital screens, in contrast to the excess of notifications and time spent on social media. Travelers seek to replace phone use with nature experiences and uninterrupted conversations. Within Generation Z, 31% expressed the intention to disconnect during holidays in 2027. Destinations such as Altamira, in Pará, with its Amazonian landscapes, and Uyuni, in Bolivia, known for its salt desert, are examples that promote this possibility of digital disconnection.
Another notable change is the replacement of traditional souvenirs with exclusive items found in supermarkets, stores, and hotels. These items attract tourists interested in shopping that cannot be done online. According to the report, 65% of travelers took a trip in the last twelve months specifically to acquire products they cannot find online. The eco-bags from the American chain Trader Joe’s illustrate this trend, becoming a desired item on social media.
Bachelor party celebrations are evolving. Instead of each individual traveling separately with their circle of friends, the preference is shifting towards holding a single celebration that brings everyone together before the wedding. Almost half of travelers (47%) would consider a joint farewell. Furthermore, 49% think it will be more fun, 33% see it as simpler to organize, and 32% highlight the savings generated by splitting costs.
Maintaining healthy habits, such as physical exercise and balanced nutrition, is another strong trend. This occurs even when travelers are away from home, whether using the hotel gym, participating in Pilates classes, or running locally. The report indicates that 79% of travelers are more likely to book accommodations that offer nutritious breakfast options, with this percentage being 81% among millennials. Additionally, 33% of Generation Z prioritizes stays with gym access.
Stories of ancient civilizations, from Ancient Greek myths to major Hollywood productions, are serving as inspiration for new itineraries. This trend groups travelers interested in locations linked to mythology and historical events, exploring ruins and trails. The study points out that 43% of respondents have already felt motivated to plan a trip after watching movies or series set in antiquity. The island of Corfu, in Greece, associated with Homer's Odyssey, is cited as a relevant destination.
Although visiting shows is not new, music is driving tourism to traditional festivals, bars with live performances, and jazz clubs. The goal of this trend is to experience local musical traditions up close. For 33% of travelers, musical style is the primary factor in choosing this type of trip. Rio de Janeiro's Carnival is among the highlights, with a predicted increase of 108% in searches for 2026.
In addition to seeking cheap flights, tourists are attentive to post-arrival expenses. The report shows that 57% of Brazilians have already changed their destinations to take advantage of more favorable exchange rates. This index reaches 64% among Generation Z and 59% among millennials. This search for affordable destinations explains the growing interest in countries like Vietnam, which saw a 61% increase in searches.
The city that showed the greatest growth in demand this year was Praia, the capital of Cape Verde, with an impressive jump of 208% in searches. This African archipelago, known for kitesurfing and its peaceful atmosphere, has sparked interest among Brazilians looking to escape conventional routes, experiencing a boom after the Cape Verdean team's performance in the World Cup.
Other rising locations include Arequipa, in Peru (+184%); Luanda, in Angola (+178%); Alicante, in Spain (+175%); and Beijing, in China (+133%), benefiting from visa exemption for Brazilians on trips up to 30 days. The list also includes El Calafate, in Argentina (+109%); Uyuni, in Bolivia (+107%); Hanoi, in Vietnam (+95%); and two domestic destinations: Altamira, in Pará (+95%), and Bonito, in Mato Grosso do Sul (+63%).
For those focused on saving on airfare, the report also details destinations with reduced fares. The main highlight is Praia, the capital of Cape Verde, which registered a 76% decrease in fares. Following are Mexico City, with a 26% cut, Shanghai, in China (-25%), and Tampa, in the United States (-13%).
Among Brazilian destinations, Campina Grande, in Paraíba, appears with 9% cheaper flights. The ranking is completed by Sydney, in Australia (-8%); New York, in the United States (-7%); Stockholm, in Sweden (-5%); Nice, in France (-5%); and San Andrés Island, in Colombia (-3%).
