Nintendo admitted that the demand for the Nintendo Switch 2 – The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition, a special edition created to celebrate 40 years of the franchise, exceeded the company's expectations. This model sold out quickly during the pre-sale period in several markets, including Brazil.
In a conversation with the channel Coelho no Japão, Bill van Zyll, Vice President and General Manager of Nintendo in Latin America, clarified that the high demand is not an issue restricted to Brazil, but rather a situation faced by Nintendo globally. The commemorative edition was launched alongside the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which will be available for the Nintendo Switch 2.
The themed console generated immense interest, selling out its stock during the pre-sale. When questioned about this, Van Zyll acknowledged that the company had not anticipated such a high level of demand, stating that 'We underestimated how well it would be received.'
According to the executive, the demand exceeding projections occurred in several regions, such as the United States, in addition to Brazil, where the limit of units available in the pre-sale was reached. Although Nintendo expected good acceptance, it did not foresee the magnitude observed after the announcement.
Nintendo confirmed that it is in the process of replenishing both the commemorative console and the game, but has not yet disclosed exact dates for the arrival of new items. Van Zyll asked consumers for patience, stating that 'We are working to replenish the special hardware and software, but this will take some time.'
The official launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 – The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition is scheduled for October 29, 2026. Concurrently, the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is set to launch on November 5, 2026, with separate sale from the console. To date, Nintendo has not specified how many extra units will be released or if there will be a new pre-sale phase in Brazil. The recommendation made to interested parties is to monitor Nintendo's official channels and authorized stores for updates on product availability.
