PS6 memory and storage could cost Sony over R$ 3.4k, according to rumors

The RAM components and storage chips for the PlayStation 6 (PS6) could generate costs exceeding US$ 680, which is equivalent to approximately R$ 3,400 in direct conversion for Sony. This information was disclosed by an informant identified as KeplerL2, who often shares preliminary data about AMD hardware.

According to a post on the NeoGAF forum, the estimated cost refers exclusively to the RAM and NAND storage. It is important to note that this rumor does not detail other essential elements for the console's operation, such as the processor, nor does it provide data on specific suppliers or contracts. Therefore, the presented value remains a speculation not confirmed by Sony itself.

Although the company is developing the next generation of the PlayStation, it has not yet communicated details about the price or release date. Rumors point to a possible announcement in 2028, but component costs may change until that date.

Recent market data provides context for this situation. A report issued by the business consultancy TrendForce predicted contractual increases of up to 15% in DRAM chip prices during the fourth quarter of 2026, compared to the previous quarter. For NAND flash, the projection indicates growth between 15% and 20%.

The consultancy points out that manufacturers are maintaining priority on production capacity allocated to servers, driven by high demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure. This focus affects the supply available for other sectors, including video game consoles.

The prospect of an expensive PS6, possibly above US$ 1,000 (which would exceed R$ 5,000), is also linked to Sony's commercial strategy. In a meeting with investors in June, the company stated that it does not plan to absorb increases in component costs and has no intention of marketing hardware with significant financial losses.

If the PS6 is launched in the United States at this price, it could be sold in Brazil for over R$ 8,000, considering the combination of taxes, fees, and the exchange rate observed between the current prices of the PS5 line in both countries. As a reference point, after the price adjustment applied to the PS5 in Brazil in April, the suggested values were set at R$ 4,599.90 for the Digital Edition, R$ 5,099.90 for the disc drive model, and R$ 7,499.90 for the PS5 Pro.

Despite this, analysts cited by the VGC website present divergent opinions on whether the new console generation will exceed the US$ 1,000 mark, keeping this level as merely a projection without official validation from Sony.

PlayStation 5 Slim (825 GB) has 13% discount on Mercado Livre during Children's Day

The digital model of the PlayStation 5 Slim, with an 825 GB capacity, is available for R$ 3,988, which can be paid in up to 10 interest-free installments using the coupon MELIOFERTAS on Mercado Livre. This Sony console received a 13% reduction from its original price of R$ 4,599.

Consumers who make the purchase may receive the console in time for the Children's Day celebration in 2026, in major Brazilian cities such as São Paulo (SP) and Rio de Janeiro (RJ). Although the base price has been adjusted in 2026, this offer is considered one of the best recently.

The PS5 Slim represents a revised version of the console originally launched in 2020, featuring a more compact design while maintaining the same performance. Thanks to its internal SSD and 16 GB of RAM, game loading occurs almost instantly. Furthermore, the 825 GB storage can be expanded with an external SSD of up to 8 TB.

A highlight is the DualSense wireless controller, equipped with advanced haptic feedback. This controller provides sensations of tension and resistance in the triggers, according to player interaction, and uses tactile and sound responses through integrated speakers to simulate presence within the game environment.

The system is capable of displaying 4K graphics with a refresh rate of up to 120 frames per second on compatible televisions. Additionally, it supports ray tracing, which allows for a more photorealistic rendering of shadows and reflections, enhancing immersion in gameplay.

Although the PS5 Slim is compatible with the entire PS4 game catalog, the digital version does not include a physical media reader in the package; this accessory, which also works with the more modern PS5 Pro, must be purchased separately. The console offers Wi-Fi 6 and Ethernet connectivity to access the PlayStation Store, where digital games and streaming applications like Apple TV and Spotify are available.

The PlayStation 5 Slim Digital, sold for R$ 3,988 with the MELIOFERTAS coupon, features two USB-C ports located on the front and two USB-A ports on the back, in addition to a dual USB-C cable for charging the DualSense.
