Angel One and Zerodha Expand Access for Indian Investors to US Stocks

Indian brokerage firms Angel One and Zerodha are expanding opportunities for investors from India to invest in US stock markets, aiming to meet the growing demand for international stocks and portfolio diversification.

Angel One has begun implementing the ability to invest in American stocks on its application, allowing users to purchase stocks and Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) listed in the US alongside their Indian assets. Currently, this feature is available to a limited group of users, with a wider launch expected by mid-November.

Investors will be able to buy shares of companies such as Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon, Nvidia, Netflix, Spotify, and Toyota. The platform will also support fractional investing, allowing users to purchase a portion of a stock instead of a whole unit.

Meanwhile, Zerodha has launched US stock investing in beta mode, providing access to approximately 2000 stocks registered in the US and 1000 ETFs through its platform. This move opens another avenue for Indian investors to access global businesses, especially in the sectors of artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and semiconductors.

This expansion was made possible after receiving regulatory approval from the International Financial Services Centres Authority for brokers offering international investments through GIFT City in Gujarat.

Angel One commits not to charge a brokerage fee until December 2026. Starting from January 2027, the fee will be 0.1% per trade, with a minimum fee of $0.99. Account opening, maintenance, deposits, and withdrawals will be free, although regulatory charges, GST, and foreign currency conversion costs will apply.

Zerodha's offering is introduced in beta mode, and brokerage and other applicable fees are governed by the company's published pricing structure.

Investments through these platforms are subject to the Reserve Bank of India's Liberalised Remittance Scheme and applicable regulations. Angel One also reported that relevant US securities will have protection from the Securities Investor Protection Corporation up to $500,000, subject to applicable conditions.

These launches reflect a broader trend of Indian investment platforms moving beyond domestic stocks as retail investors seek opportunities to participate in global markets. Other platforms, including Groww, Upstox, and INDmoney, also offer routes for international investments, intensifying competition in this segment.
