In September, the 13 brands linked to the Brazilian Association of Importers and Manufacturers of Automotive Vehicles (Abeifa) registered the sale of 24,389 vehicles, representing a 7.6% reduction compared to the previous month, August.
However, when compared to September 2025, the sales volume doubled, showing a significant increase of 100.4% compared to the 12,173 units sold in the same period last year.
A large part of this volume was driven by BYD, which alone accounted for 22,218 cars, corresponding to 91.1% of the total registered by the entity. Among the brand's models, the Dolphin Mini stood out, achieving 9,385 units sold, its best performance of the year.
An important milestone occurred in September 2026, when, for the first time that year, domestically manufactured vehicles surpassed imported ones among the associated companies: 14,388 national cars were sold against 10,001 imported ones.
The association's domestic production is significantly supported by the BYD factory located in Camaçari, Bahia. On the other hand, the sales of imported vehicles by the associates decreased by 28.2% compared to August and 17.5% when compared to September 2025. It is relevant to note that, in the general market, imports grew by 35.3% in the same period.
In the luxury brand segment, there was a contraction in the sales of Porsche and Volvo, which sold approximately half the volume of the previous year's September, registering drops of 50.5% and 50.4%, respectively. Land Rover also showed a decline of 24.1%, while Kia achieved a growth of 38.2%.
Accumulating data from January to September, the associates totaled 187,509 units, which represents an increase of 95.7% compared to the 95,809 vehicles registered in the same period of 2025. Abeifa's participation in the total market of automobiles and light vehicles, which reached 268,721 units in the month, was 9.1% in September and 8.7% in the annual accumulation.
Regarding electrified vehicles (including hybrids and electric), the entity accounts for 41.3% of annual sales, totaling 178,760 units out of a general amount of 433,349.
Despite the drop observed in the month and the high interest rate scenario, Marcelo Godoy, president of Abeifa, maintained his projection to end 2026 with 250,000 registrations, a level about 82% higher than the nearly 137,000 units registered in 2025.
