In the Samarkand region of Uzbekistan, a bridge worth 310 billion soums is being constructed across the Karadarya River. This structure is intended to connect the new Shirin residential area with the city of Samarkand and its international airport.
According to the presidential press service, on October 18, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev inspected the construction progress and reviewed the project's technical solutions.
The planned bridge will be 780 meters long and 29.8 meters wide. Its roadway is designed for four lanes and can accommodate up to 25,000 vehicles daily.
Once operational, the bridge will significantly reduce the distance between the Shirin district and central Samarkand—from 23 kilometers to four kilometers, and travel time is expected to decrease by half an hour.
The construction of this structure aims to optimize traffic flow, enhance road safety, and reduce road congestion.
During his visit, Mirziyoyev also received information on possible traffic management options before meeting with representatives of the local community.
The President noted the increase in tourists in Samarkand and emphasized the critical importance of transport infrastructure for the city's development. He stated that proper project planning and effective logistics would help reduce residents' expenses and shorten travel times.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev stressed that the construction of the bridge was one of his long-standing goals, remarking: 'After all, the city is built for people!'
Furthermore, the President urged citizens to work for the good of the country, pay attention to education, and strive for new achievements, highlighting the importance of national identity and responsibility to the people and homeland.
