The sacred festival of Sharadiya Navratri is currently underway. After nine days of worshiping the goddess, the immersion (Visarjan) of the statue takes place on Dashahara (Vijayadashami). This year, the immersion of Goddess Durga's statue is scheduled for October 20th. On this day, devotees perform the ritual of immersing Goddess Durga's statue with deep emotion, praying for her return next year. This tradition is observed with complete devotion in various parts of the country.
In some traditional depictions of Goddess Durga, a spider and its web are visible under the bindi on her forehead. This raises the question of why this occurs. This spider on the goddess's forehead appears in decorations associated with 'Dakar Sadh'. The web of this spider symbolizes Mahamaya, which represents the divine power that governs this universe through its illusion (Maya).
Experts in sacred scriptures explain that just as a spider weaves its web and remains within it, a person also creates their own system in the world. Over time, they become entangled in the chains of desires, attachments, and relationships. According to belief, the power of the goddess is behind the creation and management of this Maya. Therefore, the web is viewed as a symbol of the world's complexities, and the spider itself as a symbol of the power that transcends it.
The spider weaves its web but never gets caught in it. Similarly, a person should strive to protect themselves from the net of illusions and attachments. Money, family, relationships, and duties are part of life, but completely dissolving or getting lost in this net of Maya is incorrect.
According to the Panchang, the date of Dashami will fall between October 20th at 12:50 PM and October 21st at 2:11 PM. Thus, Durga's immersion will take place on October 20th from 1:14 PM to 3:30 PM. During this auspicious period, the statue of the goddess can be immersed at any time.
