Sydney Showman Selected for Dallas Cup
Sydney's mother, Chewonn Hendrix, reported that they are making every effort to give him the best chance to fulfill his dream, and she launched a campaign through BackaBuddy to raise R67,000. Hendrix stated that her son was noticed by a scout during a local football association tournament. 'As his mother, I am doing everything I can to help him make this dream a reality,' she said.
The team plans to fly out on March 14, 2027, and return on March 30, 2027. According to information provided by the family, the travel package includes tournament entry tickets, round-trip flights, accommodation in Austin, meals, transportation, sports gear, and travel insurance. Visa fees and personal expenses are not covered.
Hendrix believes this opportunity could open a path for her son away from the dangers of Bishop Lava, and hopes that Sydney's journey can inspire other young people. She noted: 'I believe his journey can inspire other young people from Bishop Lava to believe in themselves, work hard, and never give up on their dreams, no matter where they come from.'
An Opportunity to Change My Future
Meanwhile, Sydney dreams of showcasing his abilities on a large stage where youth teams from major European leagues compete. He shared his feelings: 'Honestly, I am very excited and grateful for this opportunity because football is what I love with all my heart. It means a lot to my family and me. It is a chance to step out of my comfort zone, experience something new, and show what I am capable of on a bigger stage.'
He added that his main goal is to become a professional footballer and a source of pride for his family. 'I want to be able to thank the people who supported me and show other young guys from my community that background does not determine where you can go.' The teenager admitted that he still has room to grow. 'I know there is still a lot I need to learn, but I am ready to work hard, stay focused, and continue developing myself to become the best player. For me, this is more than just a game in Dallas. It is a chance to change my future, and I am ready to give it everything I have.'
