Navoi International Airport has opened the Porto Franco free customs zone, which is intended to promote the development of international transportation and cargo logistics. The implementation of this project was carried out in accordance with Decree of the President of Uzbekistan No. PP-50 dated February 9, 2026.
The new zone will allow goods to be imported and stored without paying customs duties, as well as conduct import, export, and transit operations. This initiative is expected to reduce time and financial costs associated with cargo clearance and speed up the delivery of goods to recipients.
The goal of the project is to increase the efficiency of airport operations and to make more full use of its transport and logistical potential. Organizers note that Porto Franco zones in Central Asia have no counterparts.
The opening ceremony was attended by Alisher Kilichev, director of Navoi International Airport LLC, representatives of the Customs Committee, partner organizations, and other guests.
In parallel, the airport is introducing new equipment for aircraft servicing. An ACU (Air Conditioning Unit) installation has been commissioned, designed to supply cooled or heated air into aircraft cabins while they are parked on the ground. This equipment will help maintain comfortable conditions for passengers and crew while increasing the efficiency of ground handling of aircraft.
The opening of the Porto Franco zone and the launch of additional equipment are aimed at strengthening the position of Navoi International Airport as a logistics hub for cargo transportation.
