After the five-match T20 series between India (IND) and West Indies (WI) ended with a score of 2-2, the question arose as to which team would receive the trophy. Since the fifth match was cancelled due to rain, according to the rules, the trophy was jointly awarded to India's captain Shreyas Iyer and West Indies' captain Shay Hope.
Indian captain Shreyas Iyer highly praised the impressive performance of the Caribbean team's captain, Shay Hope. After the decisive match in Bangalore was cancelled due to rain, Iyer noted that Shay Hope looked completely different throughout the series.
Hope created serious difficulties for India with his dangerous batting. He scored a devastating blow in four matches of this T20 series, accumulating a total of 261 runs, including two magnificent centuries.
Discussing the situation with broadcasters after the match, Indian captain Shreyas Iyer openly stated that if his team had shown a little more discipline in bowling in the second and fourth matches, the result of the series could have been different.
Commenting on Shay Hope's play, Iyer emphasized the need to acknowledge merits where they exist. He noted that Hope's play was exceptionally good. In particular, he highly rated how Shay Hope scored runs and progressed throughout the series. Although it was difficult for him to stop him for Indian bowlers, Iyer expressed respect for his game.
Shay Hope single-handedly took responsibility for his team throughout the series. In two matches, he scored 204 runs off just 95 balls. Furthermore, in the ODI series, he scored 278 runs in three matches, including an historic unbeaten innings of 162 runs.
Speaking about his team's performance, Shreyas Iyer said that the goal of the Indian team has always been to play aggressive cricket. He noted that many positive lessons can be drawn from this series. He also praised the performance of young Naman Dheer, who scored 24 runs without getting out in the last match, aided by three sixes in just 6 balls.
