FSSAI plans to restrict sugar in infant food and set maximum permissible pesticide levels in tea

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has proposed two changes to the food safety regulations. These changes include a ban on adding sucrose and fructose to products intended for infants under six months of age, as well as setting maximum permissible levels for the residues of two pesticides in tea.

Maximum permissible residue levels define the maximum allowed concentration of pesticide residues in food products and serve as a guideline. It is important to note that they do not indicate the exact amount of pesticides present in a specific sample.

The draft amendments were officially published in the Gazette of India on October 16.
