Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Iran is ready to help conclude military clashes between Saudi Arabia and the Ansar Allah movement (Houthis) in Yemen. This statement was made during talks with his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdul Ati.
The meeting took place in Baghdad as part of the meeting of foreign ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Saturday. In an official statement published on the minister's Telegram channel, it was emphasized that Iran is prepared to provide any assistance to stop the fighting between Saudi Arabia and Yemen.
Araghchi noted that the 12-year problem of the Yemeni conflict has demonstrated the absence of a military approach or solution.
During the meeting, the foreign ministers exchanged views on bilateral relations, as well as regional and international events. Furthermore, Araghchi and Abdul Ati discussed the Palestinian issue.
The Iranian Foreign Minister also stressed that instability in the Strait of Hormuz is a consequence of US actions. Araghchi added that the Islamic Republic has always adhered to a responsible approach to diplomacy and de-escalation.
The conflict between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia intensified after a four-year pause. It escalated when the Houthis began attacking Saudi tankers in the Red Sea in retaliation for shelling Sanaa airport, which is supported by the Yemeni army backed by Riyadh, in August.
