The Ministry of Health of Ukraine announced the launch of a project to deliver organs for transplantation using unmanned aerial vehicles.
Kyiv positions itself as a global leader in drone production, manufacturing thousands of units monthly. These devices range from long-range explosives-laden drones to small first-person view (FPV) reconnaissance drones used in the war against Russia.
The Ministry of Health stated on social media the launch of an experimental project for organ delivery for transplantation via drones. The ministry's Heart Institute reported that it possesses three specialized drones capable of covering distances up to 700 kilometers (430 miles).
It was clarified that drone delivery will help accelerate the transportation of vital organs whose shelf life is limited to a few hours. Furthermore, Ukraine has long utilized remotely controlled drones and robots for medical purposes on the front lines, including supplying and evacuating wounded military personnel from shelling zones.
