The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, presented a set of actions aimed at controlling energy costs, including the implementation of joint purchasing within the European Union (EU).
During a press conference held after the European Council, which took place on Thursday and continued in Brussels, Ursula von der Leyen detailed some of the decisions made. Among them is the release of one hundred million barrels of oil and diesel over the next four months, a process that will be supervised by the International Energy Agency.
The head of the executive body also announced the intention to carry out joint energy purchases in the short term by all member countries of the European bloc.
Looking ahead, Ursula von der Leyen emphasized the importance of investing in autonomy and the shift towards sustainable energy sources, aiming to obtain resources that are accessible, clean, and generated internally, such as nuclear energy and renewable energies. Furthermore, the European leader reinforced her support for creating a more efficient and optimized energy distribution network.
