Indian Center Demands Starlink Comply with Indian Legislation for Satellite Internet Launch

Starlink, a company owned by Elon Musk, intends to begin providing satellite internet services in India, but it is currently awaiting official approval from the government. The main obstacles are security concerns and the requirement to establish ground stations within the country.

Central authorities have clearly stated that any company conducting business in the country must comply with Indian legislation. Without meeting these conditions, Starlink will not be able to launch its service in India.

A high-ranking central government official emphasized: 'Our position has been clear from the beginning. Anyone who does not abide by Indian law will not be allowed to do business in India.'

Furthermore, Starlink must fulfill the condition of establishing ground stations in India. Since Starlink provides internet via satellites, its goal is to ensure internet access even in areas where connectivity is difficult to deliver through conventional mobile networks or cable lines.

The government wants the company to build ground stations inside the country to run this service. These stations are a critical part of the network infrastructure as they help connect the signal received from the satellites to the local network. According to reports, having the necessary technical infrastructure in the country will help monitor compliance with rules and oversee safety conditions.

Sources report that Starlink has not yet agreed to this requirement for building ground stations, which has become a serious obstacle to obtaining permission.

In addition to the issue of ground stations, the government insists on fulfilling all necessary security requirements. Since the satellite-based internet service can involve equipment and networks located in various places, the government requires that all necessary security measures be taken before the service begins operating in India.

The government clarified that it has no objections to Starlink starting business in India, but the company must alleviate security concerns and agree to build the necessary infrastructure in the country.

Starlink is a satellite internet service from SpaceX. It has the potential to provide fast internet access even in remote regions. There are many areas in India where delivering conventional networks is a difficult task, and satellite internet could be an alternative option for the population.

Nevertheless, to start operations in India, the company needs to obtain the appropriate government permits. A decision regarding security and agreement on building ground stations is currently awaited. Only after these issues are resolved can Starlink provide its services to Indian customers.

Questions about Elon Musk's silence regarding the Starlink ban in China after licensing issues in India

The issue of Starlink licensing continues in India. Elon Musk, head of the satellite company Starlink, expressed his dissatisfaction with the lack of approval in India and made several serious accusations.

This raised the question of why Musk is not expressing similar dissatisfaction in China, where Starlink is also banned. This question was posed on the platform X by Rajiv Malhotra, a researcher and author of Indian origin.

Musk, one of the world's wealthiest individuals, has invested significant funds in Tesla's business in China, yet the Starlink service has not yet received permission there.

In his post on X, Rajiv Malhotra asked: 'Elon, why hasn't Starlink received permission in China? Could some Chinese industrialist (oligarch) be behind this? You have invested heavily in Tesla in China, but the Starlink service is blocked there.'

Earlier, on Wednesday, a post circulated on social media claiming that Musk accused 'oligarchs' (influential industrialists) of obstructing the launch of the Starlink service in India, although he did not name names.

Following this, Musk criticized Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries, questioning his status as India's 'chief boss'. After Musk's post was published, Congress politician Rahul Gandhi also posted a comment on the X platform.

Malhotra explained that the Starlink problem goes beyond technology and service quality; it is also related to national sovereignty. He noted that there are many reasons for this delay.

The Indian government also responded to Musk's statements. It stated that rules in India are the same for everyone and do not allow discrimination. It was clarified that licenses for satellite communication have been issued to three companies, and all must undergo a security vetting process while awaiting final approval.

The government mentioned the three companies granted licenses: Elon Musk's Starlink, Reliance Jio satellite communication, and Eutelsat OneWeb, supported by the Bharti group.

Elon Musk claims some oligarchs in India are blocking access to Starlink

On Wednesday, Elon Musk accused Indian oligarchs of obstructing Starlink's access to Indian markets, publishing the statement on the social media platform X.

Musk, founder of SpaceX, which operates the satellite internet service Starlink, wrote that 'unfortunately, we are being blocked by certain oligarchs so they can maintain their monopolistic control over the Indian people.'

The industrialist called this action a 'crime against the people of India,' but did not name the specific individuals he is accusing, only hinted: 'you can guess who it is.'

The message was made in response to another tweet presenting various statistical data demonstrating Starlink's potential benefits for India.

According to local media reports, Starlink was negotiating with Indian regulatory bodies. Nevertheless, the deal did not materialize, and the processes were halted at the final stage.

Earlier, in August of this year, the UAE issued a 10-year license to Starlink, allowing citizens and residents to use the service. This 10-year General License for satellite services authorized the creation, operation, and management of a public satellite telecommunications network and the provision of satellite broadband internet services in the UAE.

The company's services, owned by Elon Musk, are provided to private individuals, businesses, and government entities, and also provide satellite communication for the maritime and aviation sectors.
