Iranian filmmaker Babak Hajepasha will present his film 'Land of Angels' at the 63rd International Golden Orange Festival in Turkey. This participation continues the film's international activities.
The film was produced by Manouchehram Mohammadi. According to an official festival statement, 'Land of Angels' was selected for the special section 'Roots, Light and Camera!', which is dedicated to filmmakers who continue to work in difficult conditions, especially during war and occupation.
This section brings together films from Iran, Lebanon, Ukraine, and Palestine, highlighting the role of cinema as a means of self-expression and documentation of human experience during periods of conflict. The premiere of the film in Turkey will take place at the festival, which runs from October 24 to 31 in the Mediterranean city of Antalya.
The plot of the film unfolds against the backdrop of the war in Gaza and focuses on the lives and dreams of children experiencing conflict and humanitarian suffering. The production features Syrian actress Sulaf Fahavardji, as well as children of Iranian and Arab descent.
Previously, 'Land of Angels' won five Simorgh Crystal Awards at the 44th Fadr Film Festival in Iran, including awards for best film, directing, lead actress, design, and visual effects. The film also participated in international film events, such as the Kazan International Muslim Film Festival in Russia.
In early October, the film was selected to represent Iran in the international category of feature films at the 99th Academy Awards, scheduled for 2027. This selection constitutes Iran's official submission for consideration, although it does not guarantee inclusion in the Oscar shortlist or among the final nominees.
The Golden Orange Festival in Antalya, first held in 1964, is the longest-running film festival in Turkey and one of its main cinematic events. The annual program includes Turkish and foreign works, gathering filmmakers and industry professionals to showcase diverse approaches to the art of cinema.
The international distribution of 'Land of Angels' is managed by the Surekh International Department.
